| One man's lonely life completly changed in one night. (I wrote this for class) | |||
Arabella Ten years ago a woman by the name Arabella showed up at my door. She was soaking wet and looked very nervous. I asked her what was the matter, but she was ambiguous in her speaking. All I heard was, "My car broke down" and "Let me use your phone please." She looked desperate so I let her in. Though she did not articulate her words, I found her voice to be mellifluous. She was beautiful and glowing, though obviously preoccupied. Even so, how can a man such as myself even dream of love. My one true love, my beautiful wife was gone forever.... My thoughts were interrupted by the woman, "Thank you so much for letting me use your phone." she said. "Oh, no problem Ms....", I couldn't remember her name. "Oh, just call me Arabella." She said offering her hand. "My name is John" I replied as I shook her hand. Arabella made her way to the door as I asked, "You're going to stay out there?" "Yeah, I just got to wait for triple A." She answered. "Are you sure you want to stay out there? I mean, look at all the precipitation," I said without thinking, "you can wait in here if you'd like" I couldn't believe I had said that. This action taken was extremely extemporaneous. I wondered what was going through my head when she replied, "Thank you, I appreciate that." It has been years since I felt such warmness. We sat down at the table drinking coffee and started idle chit chat. "So, I bet your wife loves it here in the big city." Arabella stated. "Um, she passed away a few years ago." I told her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" I cut her off by saying, "Don't worry about it. You know what? I'm going to make a resolution. From now on, I won't live in the past." "To the future." she stated, as if it were a toast. She then complemented me on my garden, which in turn I droned on and on about roses and tulips. "I'm sorry if I'm acting a bit garrulous." I told her. "Oh no, I quite enjoy listening to you." she said. At that moment her kindness was ubiquitous to me. In everything she said their was always something positive. A truck pulling in could be heard in the distance and I knew it was time for her to go. I hyped up my anticipation of her leaving, but in reality I wanted her to stay. "I think your ride is here." I told her as I secretly carped about what I just said. "Thank you for everything John. It was nice meeting you." she said as she walked out of the door. That was the last time I ever saw Arabella. But I cold never forget her. After that encounter, my life changed and I was no longer depressed about my wife's death. Right now I wish I could thank Arabella. I want to thank her for showing me the kindness in life.
