The second message made her heart skip a beat, it was her private
investigator, Rina, 'Hey Lily, I've found one of them. He's looking for
you too. His name is Brian Arshon and he wants to meet you. Here's his
number...' Shaking, she found a pen and paper and replayed the message.
A strange feeling of hope coursed through her viens. Maybe she was not
alone. Her eyes wandered to the parlor door and she shuddered. Behind
the wooden door, a jungle of plants teemed, breathing and growing much
as a normal plant. Except they weren't normal plants. They had made
grow.

Curious as to what the rest of her messages were, she hit play for the
third one, which ended up being her mother, 'Lily, call me, I got a
hold of the adoption agent. Love you, bye.' A chill of excitement raced
through her body. Today seemed to be her lucky day. Not only did her
Rina have news for her but so did her mom. Maybe at last they would
break the mystery and quelch the dreams that tormented her.

Thrilled at the way things were going, she pressed play once more,
'Lily, I've came to the conclusion. I love you and I always will but if
you can't put aside your need to find your history, I don't think I can
try to fix things. I've gotta go but I'll call you in about a half
hour.' She quickly pressed erase, she didn't need the stress of Richard
in her life. Her feelings for him were stronger than she wanted to
admit, but the changes that were overcoming her were the more insistant
matter. After the comments he had made anyway, she wasn't sure that she
wanted him to be a matter again. With all the events that were going on
in his life, he couldn't be there the way she needed him to be. And
with the way she was, she couldn't be the way he needed. All in all, it
was a relationship that she didn't want to yet was willing to let go.

Looking down at the piece of paper in her hand with the phone number of
Brian, she was unsure of who she wanted to call first. There were so
many prospects of what could be running through her head, she was
afraid to have any of them not work out. She wanted to call her mom but
what if the adoption agent ended up being a dead end. Had no clue how
they had been aquired, had merely been the middle man, Lily wasn't sure
if she could handle that. What if Brian didn't want to meet her after
all or if when they did meet, he ended up not being different? Perhaps,
he didn't have any dreams and thought she was crazy. All that searching
for nothing, it would be too great of a let down.

In the end, however, after debating with herself, she picked up the
phone and called Brian. The voice that answered was surprisingly deep,
'Hello?' Her heart skipped a beat at the greeting, she didn't think she
had the courage to say anything and she almost put the phone back in
the cradle.

Somehow she choked out the words, 'Hello, Brian?' Crossing her fingers,
she prayed it was him because if it weren't, she wouldn't go on hold
for the person to find him. There was no way she would stay on because
the nerves were twisting her stomach up so bad, she knew that she would
hang up the phone.

'Yeah, who is this?' his voice was both curious and warning, as if he
were afraid of who could be on the other line. Of course, if he were
really afraid, he wouldn't have admitted so quickly to being Brian. He
would have dodged the question or claimed to be someone else until he
could verify who the caller was. At least, that was what she figured
from the way he was handling the phone as it was.

Fighting a severe case of the giggles, she launched into her speal, 'Hi
Brian, my name is Lily Chambers. My friend, Rina, contacted you because
you were adopted from a group of orhaned children. Same as I. I was
just wondering if you would like to meet for lunch.' She felt
breathless and exhilerated after spitting out her words, but now, the
fear set in. He was hesitating too long, he didn't want to meet her
after all. He had something to do, he was way too busy to come see some
girl trying to solve her past and now future. She had intimidated him
with her agressiveness, she always did things like that.

'Um, what time?' and the situation was fixed like that. After all her
concerns and unnecessary worries, he wanted to meet her. There was
still the note of warning intrigue in his voice, as if he were afraid
of what he was getting into. But he was not alone in his fear, she
shared it too. Soon, they were set up to meet in two hours for a lunch
that they were both aware they would not forget. When she hung up the
phone, relief and wild anticipation coursed through her veins. She
absolutely had to talk to her mom now.

Excited, with her own news to spill, she waited patiently as her mom's
phone rang fruitlessly. When it beeped for a message, she was bummed,
and announced, 'Hey mom, it's Lily, I got your message. Now my turn,
Rina found someone, his name is Brian and I am meeting him for lunch.
Call me.' Then she hung up and began the woman's attempt to figure out
what she was going to wear She had to look perfect.
