We've heard from her, now it's his turn. It's corny I know. But, then again isn't love a little corny :-)?

“Well, honey what do you think they are singing about?” David says as he
walks over to the stereo to get the right song going.

“I told you that it was number five.” David says to Gary.

“You told me to just hit play.” Gary says trying to be heard over the
laughing.

“Well, let's hit number five and see what that does.” David hit's the
button to put the track on number five. More laughter rings out when
the song starts to play. A comedian comes out of the speakers.

“I got thrown out of a bar in New York City. Now when I say I was
thrown out of a bar, I don't mean that someone asked me to leave and we
walked to the door together and I say bye everybody I've got to go. Six
bouncers hurl me out of a bar like I was a Frisbee.”

“David!” Lisa laughs along with everyone else.

“Sorry,” David says without really sounding like he was. “Maybe it's
number fifteen.” He hit's the button to put it on that track. A song
starts to play nice and slow. “There is it! Now stop it and just hit
play when I get back to the alter.”

David struts back over to Lisa as the guest start to calm down. He grins
at her to let her know that it was planned to lighten the mood and the
joke worked. She was more at ease and so were the guest.

“You've got to love him.” More than one guest could be heard saying.

“Now?” Gary asks from his position.

“Yes, start it now.” David takes Lisa's hand as the music starts to
play. He grins as Mary Chapin Carpenter's voice comes over the
speakers. He breathes deeply waiting to see her reaction on the song he
picked.

“To hear you say my name,

To see you search my eyes,

To feel you touch my hand,

It more than satisfies.”

“I can tell you like my choice. It was hard to find just the right song
to say what I feel. It's an emotion like no other than I've ever felt
before. How do you tell someone just what he or she means to you? That
is a question people have been asking for a thousand years if not
more.” David starts his vow.

The music plays softly in the background. Joe Diffy is now heard over
the speakers.

“If I was not the first,

Just say I'll be the last.

It's too much to expect,

But it's not to much to ask.”

“We all know that I wasn't the first to take your hand in marriage.
Someone else beat me to the punch on that one. But, I know for damn
sure I'm going to be the last.” David says with a grin.

“It doesn't matter that I wasn't the first though. If you hadn't gotten
married the first time you wouldn't have been so careful. I thank God
for that. With your heart as protected as it was, not just anyone could
get to you. It took someone who was strong enough to break down those
walls you talked about. I can't tell you enough how strong I am.
Because I didn't know how strong until I saw the obstacles in my path.”

“Now I can only dream,

Of being all you need.

And I can only try.

To be the reason why.”

The song plays on as David takes a breath.

“The only dream I have is one that we share together. Today marks a new
day; one where we start a new life together. A journey where we'll
either goes down with the ship again. Or it'll be a journey that never
ends. I want to be your reason why. I want to be the reason you draw
the next breath you take. I want to be all you need in life and in
everything that life throws our way.”

“You think about today,

And forget about the past.

It's too much to expect,

But it's not too much to ask.”

The song plays into a guitar solo. David looks at his bride before him
and hopes that he's getting across what he wants to say. Sometimes it's
still a little confusing to him. He thinks back to what he wrote down
on that piece of paper.

“I don't want to think about today. I want to think about the future.
It's a future I want to share with you. It's a future I want you to
share with me. I know it's a lot to ask. But, I make you a vow today
that I don't make lightly.

“I, David Thomas Smothers, take you, Lisa Diana Lawless, to be my
lawfully wedded wife. With all that entails I make this vow before God
and everyone present. There‘s nothing on this earth that I want more
then to spend my life with you.”

“Now I can only dream,

Of being all you need.

And I can only try,

To be the reason why.”

“Lisa, I can't promise that it's going to be a bed of rose. We both know
that it's not. I can't promise that we won't argue and fight. For we
both know we're going too. I can't promise you that you will have
everything you want. But, I can promise you to do everything in my
power to see that you have what you need. I can't guarantee that you
won't want to end this or that you won't want to run away. But, I can
guarantee to be there when you do. I can guarantee to clip your wings
when you want to fly. Not when you are just trying to fly high with
feelings of being a woman. But when you want to fly the coop of our
nest.”

“You think about today,

Cause the past is just the past.

It's too much to expect.

But, it's doesn't hurt to ask.

It's too much to expect.

But, it's not much to ask.”

“The song ends here, so I guess I need to wrap this up. It's not all I
wanted to say. But, it's the most important. Well, not quite because I
haven't told you how very much I love you. Which I do with each and
every breath I take. You are all I need and want in life. With you in
my life, I know that I'm complete and fulfilled. Let's take it a day at
a time and see where life leads us. Because I know with us together the
road will be one filled with love and understanding.”

David looks at Lisa to see her drink it all in. You can see the tears in
her eyes at what he has said. She knows there's more to the story then
one song can ever allow. She knows there isn't a song in the word that
has ever been written to say what he wants to say. She knows that she
is his everything. And that's all that matters to him and to her.

So, this story may not be through. The ending is still unwritten for
this people. Life has a way of doing that with each of us. But, they're
off to a flying start. Yes, there was a lot of cliches in this. Isn't
life about cliches though? Who can really say life isn't a cliché? Life
is what we make of it. Life is a road that we travel. Life is like a
box of chocolates, you never know what's in the middle. But, then again
it's not the middle that counts.

A movie once said life is something you overcome. I say a life is worth
living if you have love in your heart. Who cares where you started?
What matters is where you end up.
