he turns, and turns pulling his blankets closer. closer, closer still, holding on finding comfort in his pillow the soft, cotton fabric, soft, like her cheek smooth, like her skin he'll never caress the curves of her face, he'll never comfort her, or watch her fall asleep the candlelight shadows of her face have vanished forever "I can't wait, for something that isn't there" she says "I can't fall in love with someone who doesn't care" and so she closes the rickety, rusty gate, and walks on. So now she's gone, and all that's left is a cheek-soft pillow a reminder of what was lost, what's never to return.
