I guess it's about breaking up and never going back.

he turns, and turns

pulling his blankets closer.

closer, closer still, holding on

finding comfort in his pillow

the soft, cotton fabric,

soft, like her cheek

smooth, like her skin

he'll never caress the curves of her face,

he'll never comfort her, or watch her fall asleep

the candlelight shadows of her face have vanished forever

"I can't wait, for something that isn't there" she says

"I can't fall in love with someone who doesn't care"

and so she closes the rickety, rusty gate,

and walks on.

So now she's gone, and all that's left is a cheek-soft pillow

a reminder of what was lost, what's never to return.
