"What exactly do you mean, Paul? Keep his mouth shut? Is there something
you're not telling me? Just what was all that about anyway?” 

Jessica realised she had no idea why Kevin and Paul had almost come to
blows. 

"Oh, nothing Jess. Just a guy thing. You know what Kevin’s like.” 

Jessica stared down at him in utter disbelief, "What do you mean, it was
just a guy thing?" She recognised the anger in her voice. "I think you 
owe me an explanation at least Paul, don't you?" 

"There is no explanation. He said something I didn't like and it got out
of hand, that's all." He hesitated for just a second as if trying to 
change the subject, " I think you need to get this ankle looked at. 
I’ll get the car.” With those words he was gone. 

Jessica watched him disappear into the kitchen, confused. Her swollen
ankle throbbed, nagging her. 

'What words, what did he say?' 

Her thoughts were broken by Pauls return, 

"Car's ready. Let's get you seen to." He scooped up her petite frame and
carried her to the car. As the cool evening air hit her face, she tried 
again to recall his words, but still they evade her. All she could 
remember was the rage in Paul's face. Only it wasn't Paul's face she 
saw standing in that hallway, but one from a long time ago. A face from 
the past that until now she had managed to keep firmly in check. 

Silence prevailed as they rode to the hospital. It was an uncomfortable
silence. Jessica knew that sooner or later she would tackle the subject 
again but now didn't seem the right time...
