“I did love Ted, you know.” Lauren kept eye contact as she spoke.

“Of course I knew.” Mark was about to continue when Lauren spoke again
as though she had no intention of letting Mark speak.

“But, not as much as I loved you.” Lauren put her slender finger up
against Mark's lips, leaned her body in against his, laid her head
against his chest and finished saying what she wished she'd said over
fifteen years ago. “When Ted and I were dating and I'd dance with you,
and flirt with you, you always laughed at me and said I was being a
tease.” Lauren hesitated and tried to remember exactly how she was
supposed to say this, “I wasn't just teasing, Mark.”

“I wanted you too.” Mark almost whispered and wondered if the cool
breeze might make his words simply drift away and out of Lauren's
hearing range. “You were just so young,” he hesitated, “so sweet,” he
hesitated again, “and just too innocent and pure for someone like I was
back then.”

The two held onto each other, and this moment, fearing that all that had
been said, all that had transpired over the past few moments, might be
lost like the light was lost to the darkness, and never found again.

“I still want you,” Lauren was the first to risk more words ending such
a rare moment, “I want you now.”

Mark savored her words and thought of the lips those words had just
slipped past. The same lips he, so many times, had to use self control
not to kiss. The lips he'd, so many times, had looked at, and had
yearned for.

Mark reached under Lauren's chin, raised her head slightly, and began to
lower his own head down the journey that had begun at that finance
office so many years ago. A journey of need, of want, of desire and
the end of that long journey was now just a breath away.

Lauren tiptoed as high as she was able and, with her arms now around
Mark's strong neck, she pulled herself even further up to the lips, she
too, had desired so often.

There was no need for the tentative touch of lips that lovers so often
use to make sure it's permissible. Lauren and Mark were both aware
that they'd gone past that, years ago, even though they'd never
experienced it.

Lauren's lips were soft, yet firm against Mark's and Mark felt the heat
from the kiss travel down his body, back up, and out of his existence
making a warm, protective, cocoon around the two of them.

Lauren surrendered herself to Mark and through the passion of her kiss
knew he'd understand her need, her desire, her love, and she had none
of the fears of rejection, the fears of what Mark might think of her,
or the fears of any regrets that she'd feared she might have.

That first kiss, that first time their lips, their mouths, their souls
became one only came to an end when their bodies began to take over the
controls to their senses.

How they had gone from standing to laying together on the soft grass
beside the narrow walkway was beyond any comprehension. Lauren felt so
small, so fragile, under Mark's weight and he feared he might cause her
harm so he regained control enough to hold his weight up with the
strength of his arms.

“I don't want to hurt you, Lauren,” Mark whispered as he gazed into the
face of the woman he'd dreamed about so many times, “I want to make you
happy.”

“You are,” Lauren began to push Mark's shirt up over his broad shoulders
as she spoke, “I need you, Mark,” she now reached down and began
undoing Mark's belt, “I've waited too long,” she began undressing them
both as a child unwrapped gifts on that special morning, “I want you
now.”

Mark knew he wanted to explore her whole body. He knew that a good
lover should offer all the expertise a lover possesses to his partner.
But, like Lauren, the need was too great.

It seemed like an eternity now since that first passionate kiss. The
sky had gone dark and the lake was now nothing more than the sounds of
the inhabitants who only sang their own songs of yearning in the cloak
of that darkness.

The two lovers were continuing to savor the feel of their bodies,
finally, against each other, and anticipating the moment they would
join as they'd been meant to for so long.

When it happened it was as if a relief was shared by both. A relief
that meant nothing else would prevent, interfere, or interrupt a
moment, a feeling, a passion like neither had ever experienced before.

There was no need for motion. The motion was in the hearts and souls of
the two lovers on the ground beside the walkway that had guided them
around the lake to this wonderful place in time. The mere feel of each
other's love inside and around the other, was all than each were able
to experience at that moment.

It wasn't until they began the second kiss, of their lives of loving
each other, that they began to move in their lovemaking.

“I don't want to ever be without you again.” Lauren spoke the words in
the rhythm of her body's movement.

“You won't have to.” Mark promised with each wave of pleasure, of
passion, of love, like he'd never before experienced. “You won't have
to.”
