his friend, but his bodyguard as well. The news of his upcoming death
frightened him though. How could he ever get someone like Tom to work
with him? Was there anyone out there in his quiet little colony like
Tom?

“Yes I do care if they come back. Those guys are two of my best
battlesuit pilots. Without them the colony would be taken over by a
different colony, or even worse” he paused for a second, “it could be
destroyed.”

Tom's eyes grew in terror at the words that he was hearing.

“This colony will not be destroyed! I have made this promise, and now I
intend to keep it!”, he screamed as tears of distrust ran down his
cheek. He wiped the tears away as his beloved leader turned, and looked
at him. As the two men stood just looking at each other Tom heard the
sound of jet boosters, Zack and Ryan had come home. Tom walked to the
door, as the other two men removed their helmets from their heads. The
two armored men walked into the house, and started to remove their
battlesuits.

Zack got his off with no problem, and then looked at the two men who had
been at the compound all night.

“Sorry it took us so long. Sector 3g of the Hawk quadrant seems to be
under the Doren Coloine's control, and” he was quickly cut off by
Quinten.

“What do you mean?! I was never informed on this!”

Zack looked at him with a rageful look in his eyes.

“None of us were, sir. That's why I was planning to go see what the
situation is in the morning. With your permission of course.”, he bowed
in respect to his leader.

“Sure. But under one condition.” Zack just looked at Quinten.

“What?”

“I'm going with you.” *********************************************

The morning had come, and Zack was all ready to get going to see what
was going on in sector 3g. Quinten put on his battlesuit, and continued
to ignore Tom's requests for him to stay at the compound.

“Tom, wether you like it or not I'm going out there. And that's it. End
of discussion.” he shouted over the sounds of machines working in the
background.

“Fine then. If that's what you want sir.” replied Tom. He started to
walk back to the main living area, but turned around just in time to
see the two battlesuits take off on their mission. “I have a really bad
feeling about all this Quinten.” he murmured under his breath so that
nobody would hear him. *********************************************

The two battlesuits raced across the dessert, kicking up sand from their
boosters. Quinten looked over at Zack who was doing barrel rolls, and
other tricks. Quinten remembered when he was a young man piloting his
old stuntsuit. He smiled under his helmet, but that all changed to
soon. He looked ahead of him only to see battlesuits that belonged to
the Earth's space army.

“Zack! I thought you said it was a colony!”, he shouted through the
comlink.

“I did!” Zack replied dodging the now oncoming hail of bullets.

“Then what gives with the Earth suits?!” Quinten asked while trying not
to get shot. He looked over at Zack who just shrugged his shoulders.
“Well then let's take ‘em down!” said Quinten.

Zack's suit dodged to the left, then flew strait up. Pulling out his
chaingun he soon unleased a mass barrage of bullets down upon the Earth
suits. The Earth suits weren't meant to fight on land, and were easily
eradicated. Zack was the more aggressive type of combat pilot.
Unloading rounds from his chaingun he looked over to see how Quinten
was doing.

Quinten's gattling gun was just as he thought. A very powerful weapon,
and with the shield attachment it was good cover. Bullets were
everywhere as the Earth suits fired on the very mobile attackers. With
any luck the two ‘Martians' would be able to keep one alive, and find
out what they were doing here.

Suit after suit was hit by Zack's chaingun, and all he could see on the
ground were his enemies exploding and Quinten's gattler rounds. A loud
beep went off in his ear, and he turned around right away. What he saw
were more Earth suits.

“That's not good.”, he said to himself. Pulling a small cylinder like
object out of his equipment box, he started to fly away. I know I can't
outrun them, but let us see how well they stand up to this! He threw
the object at his foes, and they were whipped out in a mass spherical
explosion.

“Nothing to it.” he said to himself in glee. “Huh? Oh no. Not more of
them! Hey Quinten we've got a problem!” Zack yelled as he searched for
another grenade.

“I know. We are going to be busy this morning.” replied Quinten.

The two colony suits went into action right away, and unleashed hell
upon their foes. Quinten's ‘Rattler' battlesuit was quickly unleashing
rounds from it's gattling gun attached to the left arm. Soon his
enemies had no chance of escape. No suit from the Earth military that
touched the ground would live to tell it, but he had that uneasy
feeling that he was missing something.

“Guess not.” he said to himself, and he continued to fire on his foes.

Zack's suit was handling the air, and doing a good job of it. His
‘Saiber' battlesuit was built for air born combat, and he was in charge
of the Gemini colony's paratrooper forces. His chaingun was starting to
run low on ammunition, so he would have to take his opponents out the
old fashioned way. He threw his chaingun down to the ground, and pulled
out another object that looked like a grenade. He didn't throw it
though, instead he flipped a small switch on it and a large blade made
of pure energy came out of the top.

In his hand he held a saiber blade. These swords were feared through out
the colonies for years, until the army started using them.

“So you guys ready to take me? Or will you be no challenge, and die
right away?!” Zack yelled as he flew at his foes with the sword over
his head. He swung in a downward direction cutting an enemy suit in
half, and again swinging to his left striking another suit down.

“Huh. These guys are a bunch of wimps.” Zack said as he struck down more
enemy suits. His sword cut through his enemy's armor like a hot knife
on butter. His skills with the weapon were even more amazing. He seemed
to have total control over the sword.

At that moment a rain of bullets fell upon Zack. His suit was struck
several times by the enemy fire, and he fell to the ground. He got up
off the ground, and looked to the sky to see what fired at him.

“Heavy Assault suits. I should have figured, but how come my scanners
didn't pick ‘em up?” Zack asked himself as he flew back into the air.
“Hey Quinten did your scanner pick up those HAS'?”

Quinten didn't even know about any other suits.

“No mine didn't pick anything up, and they still aren't picking them
up.” he said.

Quinten was starting to worry now, but that worry seemed to make him
want to fight even more. He aimed his gattling gun carefully at the
enemy suits, and unleashed a storm of bullets. Nothing, not even a
scratch on any of them. What the hell? I didn't hit a single one! I
don't get it. Quinten thought, and thought but nothing seemed logical
at all.

“Nobody could move that fast in a battlesuit, and live. It just doesn't
seem right. Hey Zack did you see that?” he yelled through his comlink.
He looked up at Zack who was just shrugging his shoulders. “Zack watch
it!” yelled Quinten.

Zack turned around, and took a good 8 shots to the chest.

“Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!” he screamed as his suit once again feel to the
ground. He got up, and limped over to Quinten.

“I don't think we can beat those things. They seemed to be upgrades of
the regular Earth HAS. We better go back to the compound.” Zack said,
sturggeling to stand erect.

“What if the follow us Zack?” Quinten asked, as he helped his friend up.

“We'll be safer there. We would have more protection.” Quinten nodded at
what Zack had just said.

The two suits turned away from their opponents, and took off kicking up
sand all over the place. Was running back the compound the best thing
to do, or should they have stayed and fought? Either way they were
going to end up fighting the Earth HAS'.
**************************************************

The compound was quiet for the first few minuets, as Zack and Quinten
took off their battlesuits. That soon changed though as the two men
came upstairs, and sat down with everyone else. The room was full of
officials from the colony, and Quinten really hated these meetings.
They always ended up with Quinten having to agree on some sort of
battle plan.

“This is an outrage! The Earth sends suits, and you two fire on them?!
Quinten I wonder why the people even elect you so much!” said one man,
but his words never got around to Quinten.

Tom stood up to speak, but Zack just told him, “Let me handle this one,
Tom. I was there remember?” Tom nodded his head, and let Zack stand to
speak.

“Just to let you know Captain Sarkof, the Earth suits fired on us first.
We had to fire back or risk getting killed.”

“Firing back just increases your risk of getting killed!” yelled Sarkof,
but Zack continued.

“Yes I know that, but they were Earth suits. They shouldn't even be here
on Mars, let alone shooting at us and another thing,” Zack was cut off
by Quinten.

“Sarkof I was there, and this is my colony. So as long as I'm in charge
here you will not argue with my bodyguards, do you understand that?”
Quinten had total control of what happened here. Sarkof nodded.

Ryan was left behind from the battle, but he saw everything on Zack's
camera. He smiled as he looked over a Sarkof, but wasn't aware that he
was being watched.

“Is something funny Mr. Ferrel?” asked Sergeant Marden.

“Huh? I was just laughing a Sarkof over there. I mean come on Sarkof you
should have more sense then to mess with Zack. You should know that
Quinten would get on you for messing with any of us.” replied the young
man, still smiling.

Sarkof sat right across the table from Ryan, and was ready to jump
across it to choke the boy.

That bothered no one at the time, but Quinten still had his eye on
Sarkof. The main concern was this whole thing with the Earth. Why had
they attacked the two men? What was the meaning of it? What ever it was
Quinten wanted it to stop.

“Gentlemen I have to say something that may sound crazy, but it is our
last resort. Now that the Earth has attacked Martian suits we must take
action. What ever may be the reason for attacking Zack, and I is beyond
me. That is not of my concern either. I am concerned with what will
follow this attack, and what we must do is be prepared. We, as a
colony, must unite the other colonies! I have our peace nagoiators
working on that as we speak. We, the colonies, will join up to stop the
threat that we have feared for so many years, and the planet of Mars
will become one force to stop our foes......the Earth.” As Quinten
finished the screen behind him turned on with the faces of all the
colony leaders on it.

The vid screen was large enough so that Quinten wouldn't block anyone's
view, but still a few people had problems seeing.

All the men at the table were in shock, except for those who had been
informed earlier, and couldn't figure out how Quinten had done it but
who cared?! He had united the colonies.

“This ladies, and gentlemen is the beginning of a war. This my comrades
is the Martian Revolution. The point is to achieve total peace between
the Earth, and Mars. We will have peace!” Everyone stood up, and began
clapping. Quinten was the first colony leader to have brought peace to
the colonies.

Zack looked over at Ryan who was so proud of Quinten.

“This is the start of a living nightmare.” Zack muttered under his
breath, as he stood up and left the room.
*************************************

Days had passed, and Tom had died. Nothing seemed to strike more pain
into Quinten then seeing his comrade of 17 years dead before his feet.
I'll never get anywhere if I keep felling sorry for myself. Tom, may
you rest in peace. You won't be fighting this war.

“You're lucky.”, he said as he walked off with thoughts of battle plans
running through his head. His new right hand man was named Ken, and
Quinten was introduced to this man by his close friend Captain Scott
Kelmore.

Ken stood waiting outside of the graveyard waiting for Quinten. Aaron
stood at his left side, and to his right was his handy rifle. He looked
over at Scott many times, but Scott never looked back at him.

“You need to have more confidence in Quinten. He just might be able to
pull it off if we help him.” Scott said softly to Ken, who was stroking
his rifle barrel.

“When we were young you told me you hated the army now here we both are
working for this guy. He'll never do it, but perhaps his child can.
Well it's not my call anyway.” said Ken as he opened the door to get
into the front seat of the jeep they had driven over.

“I wonder what he means by that. What would he know about Quinten's kid?
Well that's beyond me.” Scott said under his breath. The very thought
of what Ken said boggled the mind. What could Ken know about Quinten's
unborn kid? The two men themselves were no older than 17, and here was
Ken talking about Quinten's son. Not that it really bothered Aaron
anyway, but it just seemed a little weird hearing it from Ken. The man
with cares.

Scott laughed at the thought as he got into the jeep, and they began to
drive back to the compound. **********************************

The three men reached the compound where Zack, and Ryan waited for them
with some bad news. Quinten jumped out of the jeep, and looked at Zack
with a confused face.

“What's wrong?” he asked Zack as the other two got out of the jeep.

“The United Earth Army found out that you were uniting the colonies, and
have declared war on Mars. They want total control, and most of all;
you dead.” Zack replied. The words came as a shock to all three men,
but for some reason Ken seemed more concerned then anyone else. They've
started a war! What were those fools thinking? He thought it through
and through, but it didn't make sense.

“So the UEA's starting a god damn war?! Are those guys insaine? We can't
fight back against that kind of power. We'll never win.” said Ken as he
sat down in one of the chairs.

“Well we might stand a chance if we all fight together. The chances are
slim, but we have to at least try.” said Quinten.

His words were followed with words of encuragment, and he knew that this
was the start of the revolution. He knew that his life would be risked,
and that his son my not ever know his father.

“Then it's decided. With the power of all the Martian Colonies we will
fight!” he yelled, and his comrades gave yells of joy.
***************************************

He later gave a speech at a colony meeting stating that all the colonies
must work together, or the UEA will take over and kill them all. All
the colonies agreed with him, and even for such a young man he was
indeed inspiring many people.

The war had started, and people had put aside their differences to
become allies. *******************************************************

The time seemed to pass so quickly, as Quinten stood over his wife. In
her arms was a baby. His first born son, and first child at that. Both
he and his wife, Monica, were so happy, but they couldn't figure out a
name for their new child.

Ken leaned against the door to the room, and smiled as he saw the baby
in perfect working order.

“Ken what do you think we should name him?” asked Monica.

“Come on Ken. You're here, so you might as well do some work.” said
Quinten laughing.

Ken looked at the two, and spoke. “I think you should call him Ric.
After the man who built the battlesuits that we use today, and will win
the revolution with.” Quinten stared at him smiling.

“That's a great name. Well son you're name is Ric. Ric Torrence.” said
Quinten, as a tear of happiness rolled down his cheek.
*********************************************************

Nothing made me more happy than seeing young Ric brought into the world
without any defects. It never seemed to strike me as a thing to be
happy about, but maybe Ric will be the one to save us from the UEA's
attacks in the future. Even if he doesn't i'll still be there to watch
him, as I had promised Quinten. I have much faith in the young boy, but
I'm making sure not to keep my hopes up. Even with the war starting I
can live a normal life, but now I have one more thing to worry about.
Quinten's son, but that shouldn't be to hard. He's only two weeks old,
and I don't take responsibility for him till he's one full year old.
That gives me a lot of time to prepare, but also to fight without
having him to worry about. Of course once he's old enough i'll start
teaching him how to control the Rattler battlesuit, but until then i'll
leave him to Monica.
