Question three gets answered. Who do we affect when the words get confused?

question. When we confuse the words towards someone, it sends a message 
that we can't be trusted. Maybe? If you're constantly telling someone 
that you love them and then turn around and say “I hate you” to the 
same person they get confused on which to trust. Do you love them so 
much you have to hate them? Or is it just in the heated moments that 
you hate them? 

As parents, how many times has our children said this very thing to us?
To me it's a sign that I'm doing the right thing. When they hate me its 
because I don't give them what they want at that exact moment. 

“Mom, I want to dye my hair green and mark up my body.” One son will say
to his mother. 

“Absolutely not!” The mother will scream at the son. 

“I hate you! You're destroying my life!” The son will scream at his
mother as he stomps out of the room. 

No, my son never wanted to dye his hair green, a friend of mine had this
happen to him. My son wanted purple! Did he get to do it? No, but we 
compromised and he got green on Halloween. 

The point is the mother didn't stop to question the son on WHY he wanted
to do it. My brother didn't tell my mother when he got his first 
tattoo. It is a memorial cross for my real father, so she let it slide. 
My brother was 16 when he got it. Also to my friends with tattoos, I 
just wrote it like that because it went with the story I was telling. I 
don't think of tattooing as marking up your body. When it's done right, 
it's a work of art! 

A husband and wife are sitting across the table from each other. They're
both going over their day. The husband says to the wife, “I think I'm 
going to have a lazy day. I'm not doing anything today.” 

The wife looks at the husband and says, “I hate you! You never do
anything for me!” And she running to the bedroom in tears. 

If she would have stuck there's no telling what the husband would have
said next. It could have been something wonderful, or it could have 
been more selfish thoughts on his part. But, because she got her 
panties in a wad, she'll never know. 

We don't take the time to let people tell us what they are thinking. We
just assume something and go off on a tangent. Now let's turn both of 
these situations around. 

“Mom, I want to dye my hair green and mark up my body.” The son says to
the mother. 

“Son, I'm concerned why you would want to do this.” The mother stops
what she's doing to listen to her child. “Is there a reason you want to 
do these things.” 

“Yes there is.” The boy replies proudly. “I'm thinking of joining the
circus and thought it would be fun.” 

“Oh, boy are you a hoot!” The mother laughs, knowing it was all a jest,
and hugs her son. 

“I love you, Mom.” The boy replies as he allows his mother to take him
in her arms. 

“I love you too, my son.” The mother says with tears in her eyes. 

See how much better this is because the mother stopped to see WHY ,
instead of assuming it was for a bad reason. The son just wanted to 
make his mother laugh to let her know he loves her. I love this part of 
the story! 

Husband and wife sitting across the table at each other discussing their
day. Husband looks at the way to exclaim, “I'm taking a lazy day. I'm 
not doing anything today.” 

“Why, dear, I haven't heard you talk like that in ages.” The wife looks
at her husband. 

“Well, we've both been so busy with our jobs, the kids, and the house, I
just figure that we need a lazy day.” The husband gets up to walk over 
to his wife. “How's about we spend the day in day? Or we could do those 
little chores that you've been nagging me about for months?” 

The wife stands up to meet her husband halfway. “And here I thought you
would never get around to cleaning out the attic.” She teases as he 
takes her into his arms. 

“You little minx you,” The husband replies as he kisses her. “I love
you. You know that don't you?” 

“If I didn't, I do now.” She states breathlessly. 

You never know the outcome of something until you stop, look, and listen
to what is being said. To assume someone is going to understand what 
you say, is stupid if not ridiculous. No one knows what's in your mind, 
but you. So with these two examples you can see how the words could be 
confusing. And all because the person didn't take the time to 
understand where the other is coming from! 

Back to the question. Who do we affect when these words get confused?
Usually it's the people we love the most! So take the time to listen to 
someone before you make your comments to someone. They could end up 
“hating” you for saying something. Or they could end up “loving” you 
because of your compassion to understanding where they are coming from.
