Love and Hate Part 3

By: Lori

The third part in my series on loving and hating.
_________________________________________________________________

When I began this series it was to be one piece on the differences
between love and hate. As I go deeper and deeper, it's teaching me
about how I view these two words. It's informing me there is too much
hate in the world and not enough love. There's so much conflict in this
world we've forgotten what it means to love someone for who they are.
We get hung up on what they are, what they do, what they believe in,
and so forth. We forget to think of them as the person they are inside.
If we want our world to change, we have to change our way of thinking.
To do this we have to re-examine these words what they mean to us.

Here are more definitions on love:

1. Strong predilection, enthusiasm, or liking for anything.

This definition is used towards a thing. I knew most of the meaning, but
I'll admit I had to look up the word predilection. It means, in my
terms, to like something in particular, like books. It could mean, the
definition, also towards someone, I think.

2. To embrace or kiss someone you love.

What this definition is about I don't know. For it's not a definition of
the word, it's a feeling you want to do toward someone. You have to
love someone to embrace them. Well, you don't but it makes it nicer.

Here are more quotes on love:

“I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times, in life
after life, in age after age forever.” ~Rabindranath Tagore~

This is romantic to me. To have experienced this type of love must be
spectactularly. To be this to someone must be wonderful to feel. I mean
not everyone feels this way about the person they love. My husband is
the love of my life, but I hold part of myself back from him. It's for
security reasons toward myself, so I can guard my heart in case he
hurts me. But, to know that someone loved me forever? Wouldn't that be
the grandest thing?

“Love is a portion of the soul itself, and it is of the same nature as
the celestial breathing of the atmosphere of paradise.” ~Victor Hugo~
“How romantic men were back in the day,” this writer sighs as she reads
this quote.

Some more definitions on hate: 1. To be unwillingly; dislike. It's
getting harder and harder to find definitions I haven't used before.
This is towards an object too. 2. To detest. I like this one because
it's such a simple definition and it speaks volumes.

More quotes on hate: “To hate fatigues.” ~Jean Paul Richter~ Should
anymore be said? “I shall never permit myself to stoop so low as to
hate any man.” ~Booker T. Washington.

Just a little side note on these hate quotes. I have book marked these
and the love quotes to make them easier for me to find. The love ones I
can always find with no problem. But, with the hate ones it's like they
disappear from my bookmarks. I have to search and search for them.
Today I had to do another search on Yahoo because I couldn't find the
link in my favorites. That tells me something! It tells me it's not in
me to hate someone to such a degree as I've been talking about. It says
that I'm not supposed to know these quotes because I would never use
them talking to a person.

Now here's the third question: Who do we affect when these words get
confused? For me this is a tough question, I don't know why. So, please
bear with me as I work this out in my head. Hopefully I make it
understandable.

It's a tough question because it's so broad, even though it's my
