The Second Chapter to Lost in War

Chapter two: At heavens gate

I awoke to the dead silence of my bedroom looking up at the ceiling fan
slowly spinning in the dark. Sitting up I stretch out my arms and let
out a long drawn out yawn and could feel the warm rush of blood through
my body. I stood and walked to the bedroom door, my clothes were still
on from when I fell asleep earlier today. I could hear the laughter of
my daughter in the next room followed by her little foot steps in the
hallway as she ran. I opened the door slowly greeted by my wives
beautiful smile that could melt my heart. He long dark hair lay gently
and straight down past her shoulders, her shinning brown eyes looking
into my green eyes. “honey, I made you some food” She looked over to
the table behind her and then back at me with her hair swooshing
through the air giving me the cutest smile ever. “I hope you like it”.
She turned around and walked back into the kitchen. Kara, my daughter,
came rushing right by my legs laughing while holding her doll tight in
her hands. Its hard to believe that I have all this, my life couldn't
possibly get any better. I approached the table to where my food sat
awaiting for me. The room then darkened and my wife and daughter
disappeared into the darkness. Dust floats through the air and broken
class and wood lay across the floor. Everything in the house was
destroyed, I felt a tear roll down my right cheek. I miss my family, so
much, everything was stripped away from me. A picture was on the table
covered in dust, I raised the picture in front of my face. The picture
was of my wife, Kara and I in a bright summers day at the park. I could
feel the warmth of that day coursing through my body and almost as if I
could feel her breathing down my neck. I closed my eyes trying to
imagine they were with me right at this moment, more tears were then
falling from my eyes. I clutched the picture close to my heart and then
stuck it in my pocket as I started for the kitchen entry way. I peered
down the hallway to where my daughters room is, I could see that the
door was open. I slowly walked towards the door cautiously. Reaching my
hand out to touch the door handle I opened the door and a blast of
light surrounded my vision. Kara was watching her favorite show on the
television, hearing her laughter brought so much joy into my soul. I
walked up behind her and I crouched down beside her. “hi daddy, I miss
you, when are you going to come see me?” just then I snapped back to
reality and her doll lay on the floor in front of the television. My
heart broke, “just hold on baby girl” I whispered to myself while I
picked up her doll. Standing up was a lot harder that time, it felt
like I had a thousand pounds on my shoulders. I looked around the dark
broken up room and I saw nothing but heart ache. I walked to the door I
entered in and looked back down the hallway to the bathroom. Slowly the
door opened and my wife was dancing out filling my life with light
again. She was singing loudly and twirling looking into my eyes she
walked to me singing as if she was singing her heart out to me. Putting
her arms out wanting a hug I leaned in with a hug and kiss and ended up
stumbling forward realizing there was nothing but darkness and dust. I
cant take this any longer, I thought to myself, walking to where my
bedroom was. I walked over to the night stand next to the bed and
opened up the top drawer with a pistol appearing with a clip next to
it. Slowly lifting the pistol in my right hand and the clip in my left
I loaded the gun and cocked it. I raised the gun looking at it as if I
was looking at it for the first time. It was cold to the touch, goose
bumps ran up the spine of my back. Memories of my wife, my daughter
Kara, my life, my job, my friends, my family and all the memories that
brought joy to my life started to race through my head. Tears started
flowing out of my eyes now as memories leaked from my head into the
room around me. I could hear the laughter of my daughter, the singing
of my wife, the voice of my best friend john, my mom and father in the
other room. Images came and went, noises here and gone. Staring at the
pistol in my right hand made me think of what my daughter had said to
me. It breaks my heart every time I hear that in my head. I shut my
eyes and I could see my wife holding Kara in her arms standing in front
of two huge golden gates on a cloud smiling and waving yelling my name
“Jordan! Jordan! Over here! We love you!” a smile ran across my face
and a sense of belonging fell upon my soul. I looked again at the
pistol in my hand and a tear ran down my face, I lifted the pistol to
the inside of my mouth and fingered the trigger, Heat coursed through
my veins. I could feel the blood rushing through my body. I shut my
eyes, the world drowning out around me, I could hear no more, I could
see no more. A loud gunshot pierced the silent world and echoed forever
into the dark world.

I fell to my knees sweat running down my face, breathing heavy I dropped
the gun to the floor in front of me. I curled my body down and grabbed
the back of my head and curled into a ball “I cant do this...” I
repeated those words to myself over and over again. Just then a thought
ran through my mind. “I have to do this, for my wife, for Kara, for
everybody” I slowly rose to my feet grabbing the pistol with my right
hand and I holstered it into my pocket. A determined look shot across
my face. I turned and faced the main house door. I started to walk to
the door at a steady and fast pace. I paused in front of it and said
to myself out loud “just hold on baby, daddy's coming” I opened the
door and a blast of light came bursting through the door revealing the
destroyed city beyond. I stepped out and vanished into the light.
