forever . . . if we actually had that long, I wasn't sure so sure
about.

R-"Well, ya know, it has kind of a cozy feel to it." I looked at her
from the corner of my eye to see if I happened to get some reaction
from her, I wanted to sound serious and for her not to catch the smile
that had worked its way onto my face, but in the end I was very
unsuccessful.

N-"Oh my gosh you're so crazy." She knew me too well because before she
faced me to see the look on my face she already had a brilliant smile
lighting up her face. Telling me that she knew I always ended up making
things better by my playfulness.

R-"Awe you know you liked it to. Come on you can't tell me your not
gonna miss it too." I held her gaze as we walked toward the exist, not
caring what we may have ran into. I felt almost impenetrable when I was
with her. I almost forgot why were even running when I had what I
wanted walking next to me. My hand brushed hers as we turned down the
hill. The electricity I felt by just the slightest brush made it hard
to breath and she must have felt the same way because her cheeks turned
a deep rosy color.

N-"Oh yes i can." She barked back as the moment of passion slipped away.
"I don't even have to cross my heart and die!" She turned toward me and
drew a little "X" over her heart with a stupid grin on her face.

R-"Not even a little bit?" I asked as I grabbed her hand, that thing I
was longing to hold since I woke up earlier that morning, and we
stopped there for a moment entraced by each others presence.

N-"No. Like I keep telling you Redwan, I just want out of here. I want
this over with." Tears welled up in her small green eyes, and I think
my heart broke into a million pieces. I didn't know what I should do,
holding her was fine, but it didn't solve anything. So I decided to
make a silent promise with myself. Redwan, when this is over and you
have your Nena, you are going to marry her. That means she will not die
and you will never let that happen.

R-"Ok that's fair i guess since you were the one with the sword to your
neck. Oh hey there's the...." I trailed off as we rounded that last
turn to see the mouth of the canyon, but instead to find fifteen or so
Black Pawns making it impossible for us to even think about getting
through. My eyes grew wide and I didn't try to keep my fear off my
face. There was no trying to hide things from Nena, she could feel
without looking at me that I was scared. And there in the center of
those horrible creatures stood the Black Knight. Man I was getting
tired of seeing this guy.

N-"See what i mean about this canyon." She quickly glanced at me, fear
there on her face for all to see, but who was I to criticize when I had
the same expression on mine.

R-"Oh come on its still not that..AHH!" My scream echoed off the canyon
walls as the arrow pierced the back of my right leg. I knelt down to
see how bad the damage was. I grimaced at the wound, it was bad enough
to slow us down and possibly lose us this fight, but I was going to
protect Nenavass as I promised her. The Archer from behind me, now
clearly visible, took us by surprise. How could I have let down my
guard so early? What was I thinking? Shaking my head from all the
confusion and questions that were now clouding my thinking, I focused
my attention on the Knight. That smirk on his face like he had already
won the battle, when it just started disgusted me. This was a war
between him and me right now, I thought as I became angered and
enraged. I quickly stood up and was going to race up and strangle him,
but to my dismay I ended up staggering and almost falling. Thankfully
Nena was there to catch me like always.

N-"Oh my gosh are you ok?" She was at my side holding me up as I tried
to regain my balance. I looked down at her beautiful face only to be
taken off guard by the tears starting in her eyes again. I took my hand
and gently brushed the tears away.

R-"There is no need to cry Nena. I do have an arrow through my leg but
other than that im just great." I tried to reassure her, but without
success, she was already thinking about the possible lose of this sad
situation I could tell by the look on her face. "Oh and i changed my
mind about missing the canyon." I chuckled a little bit to lighten the
mood only to be shot a death glare, she really wasn't happy about this
at all.

N-"Here let me get that." She huffed at my insensitivity and bent down
to take the arrow out of my leg.

R-"No wait!" I cried in agony as she yanked the arrow out of my leg.
Looking down the color of crimson red was gushing down my leg "Ok um
yeah thanks for that." I grimaced a smile at her.

N-"Oh im sorry." Her frown was record breaking as it made her face look
older. To comfort her I caressed her face, she closed her eyes and
leaned into my embrace, thanking me in her own way for being there with
her.

R-"Its ok im fine. But now about a bigger problem." I turned to that
horrible looking creature, that seemed to have inched his way closer to
us, and hopped closer to him.

BK-"We figured we would catch you before you had the chance to try
something tricky." He laughed a laugh that I only heard in my
nightmares, a laugh I didn't know was possible. His eyes burrowed into
my soul as he readied himself for whatever I had up my sleeve, but it
wasn't that look I was worried about, it was that hungry look he gave
Nena. It made me want to shield her, as if his looks were what I was
trying to protect her from.

R-"Well i gotta say bravo." I clapped in a patronizing way " you really
got me this time. Man and that one is really gonna leave a scar." I
pointed to my leg and noticed the bleeding was not letting up.

BK-"Oh but Redwan I don't think that's what you're going to be worried
about when we leave here." The smile and the hunger in his eye
intensifying.

R- "Right...I don't see what you're getting at. I mean I'm sure I can
find some cream somewhere on our way home-" Getting in a few jabs
before I was cut off by his impatience.

BK-"Oh shut up i mean your gonna be dead you idiot." He rolled his eyes
and his face became angry, as if I was telling a joke he had been
waiting to tell all day.

R-"Oh ok well i guess that makes sense i mean who worries about scars
when their dead right." I was still joking with him, I liked seeing his
reaction when he was trying to be serious and make things more
dramatic, I would say for effect.

BK-"You imbecile just stop with your insolent babbling!" He yelled at
the top of his lungs. I couldn't take my eye's off of his hand, as he
was yelling, it moved closer and closer to his sword.

R-"Well there is no need to call names i mean come on can't we be
civilized?" It sounded childish but I wasn't focusing on our
conversation I was trying to figure out what to do to win this fight
because right now I saw no way for us to win this thing. As I thought
that I looked at Nena. The look on her face was a blow to the gut, it
looked like she was losing what little faith she had left, tears
staining her cheek. I wanted so bad to run over to her and hold her,
never to let her go.

BK-"Oh i am going to enjoy killing you." The Knight laughed as he slowly
took the sword out of it's holster. The silver was the color of his
dead empty eyes, glinting off the sun into my eyes, I had to squint.
The air felt like it was being sucked out of me when it clicked. The
reason for the numbers of men, the reason for the archer. We were going
to do die here if I didn't do something to stop them.

R-"Wait what happened to the whole king wants us alive thing?" I asked,
the look of confusion obviously plastered on my face by the way the
Knight looked between the both of us.

BK-"You have been deemed to dangerous to be left alive." He told us like
we should have known, like we should have prepared for this.

R-"Well how rude i mean he's never even met me. That seems like kind of
snappy judgement isnt it?" I ridiculed them a bit, but little did they
know that I had a plan I was sure was going to stop them, I just really
hoped it worked out completely in our favor.

N-" Do you really have to mess with them so much?" She whispered harshly
to me.

R-"Oh come on they love my playful banter, dont you guys?" I smiled at
them a faint chuckle breaking through.

BK-"Archers ready your arrows." The Knight barked orders and faced us a
smile erupting on his face again.

R-"Apparently not. Oh come on can't we at least talk about this?" I
stretched my arms in front of me as I wobbled closer to the crowd
before us. The pain was horrible, I could barely stand let alone walk,
if that's what you wanted to call the wobbling I was doing. I didn't
know what I was doing I started talking, moving, and negotiating before
I realized it.

BP-"Arrows ready boss." The short, stocky soldier called the Knight as
we waited for the final and deadly order from his commander.

R-"That seems to be a negative also. Ok just a second can i at least
have one request before we die?" I asked gingerly and cautiously so
they wouldn't have the slightest idea that I had a plan, a plan that
would save us both.

BK-"Hmm fine what is it?" The Knight said through gritted teeth not
knowing if he should let me have this last request or to kill right
there.

R-"I only ask that you allow me to kiss my queen one last time." I asked
as I stepped closer to Nena and further from the Knight. I stretched
out my arm to her and she took my hand eagerly.

BK-"Aww how sweet isnt it boys?" The Knight laughed a deep gut renching
laugh like what he had just heard was the funniest thing he had ever
heard and the soldiers follow in as an uproar of laughing came behind
him.

N-"What are you doing?" Nena was surprised, willing, and confused and
she embraced me, readying herself for the kiss

R-"You'll see." I reassured her. Looking into her eye's I tried to tell
her that I wasn't giving up and to just go with it. Leaning into me as
i could hardly stand, we embraced each other with a long passionate
kiss. My lips began tingling, wait no, they began burning. At first it
was a dull burn, but as we held each other longer the burning became
like fire. It wasn't a burn I hated, I never hated the things Nena did
to me, it actually liberated me in a way. When I knew I was ready to
unleash this fire on the enemy I let go of Nena and fire erupted from
my mouth. The last thing I saw on that Knights face was shock and fear
as he realized he was the one who was to die right here today, not us.
When I was finished, the enemy was in ruins. After looking at the
destruction I left, I turned to the Black Tower man, who shook as I
looked at him. Fear was in every corner and crevasse of his body.

R-"So you wanna talk?" I raised my eyebrow at him questioningly waiting
patiently for his response.

BT-"Uh..uh.." He stuttered clearly still scared at what he just
witnessed.

R-"Run along now." I motioned for him to leave and opened my mouth
getting ready for the next inferno to escape my mouth, but to my dismay
he was already gone and running away and never turned back. After he
was out of my view I turned toward Nena.

N-"Well you did it again." She smiled at me with relief, confusion,
fear, and sadness free from her wonderful olive skin.

R-"No we did it.' I reached out to her and she responded by nestling
herself into my chest and I could feel her heart beat slowing to a
normal rate as we sat there for awhile.

N-" Ok fine we did it. Now let me cool down those lips of yours." She
giggled as she leaned up to my face again and kissed me, a kiss that
slowly turned my fired to ice, I could never get used to the power
between us. It was too perfect to be real.

R-"Wow." I panted as we unlocked our lips and gazed into each others
eyes.

N-"Hot enough for you?" Nena said as that rosy red colored her cheeks
quickly.

R-"Um..yeah.........Oh so anyways at least were almost out of the
canyon." I quickly changed the subject as I could tell things were
going to get out of hand fast, and we didn't have time for something
like that right now.

N-"Yeah can you walk?" The worried look in her eye again as she
remembered my horrible wound.

R-"Here let me try?" I began to wobble but trying to walk like a normal
man, my knees buckle under me as the feeling of fire shoots up my leg.

N-"Here lean on me." She offered me willingly. She always hated seeing
me in pain and to be honest I hated this just as much as she did. I
threw my arm around her neck and leaned on her and we began to walk
slowly out of the canyon, the sun slowly fading behind the wall.

N-"Well i'm glad were finally out of Agni canyon." She said with a sigh
of relief

R-"Wait wait, Agni canyon? Where did you get that? Was there a sign or
something i missed when we walked in?" I looked at her with confusion
on my face searching her's for an answer, but sadly coming up empty.

N-"No silly that's just what i named it." She laughed at me, but that
was normal so I joined in.

R-"Aw ha and who said you get to be the one to name this canyon which i
found by the way." I turned away from her face and glanced back behind
us, to get one last look at Agni Canyon. I must admit that is a pretty
clever name for it, but I would never give her the satisfaction without
giving her a hard time first.

N-"I don't have to ask anyone Redwan because you'll agree with the
reason why I named it." She hinted to me to ask her why she named it
Agni, but I wouldn't do that until I was done getting a few more jabs
in, it was what I did.

R-"Mmm hmm i see and im supposed to just go along with what you've named
it?" I mocked her "‘Agni Canyon! Redwan.'" we both laughed at my
impersonation of her, but it didn't come close to what she sounded
like, nothing ever would. She was what beauty was meant to be.

N-"It means fire canyon." She smiled at me when she figured out she was
just going to have to tell me.

R-"Fitting. Well I guess we can call it that." I reassured her. I guess
it was fitting though, I was the one who miraculously had fire erupt
from my mouth only to save us once again. Finally making it to a spot
we could camp out for the night, we sat down and she wiggled herself
into my embrace and locked body up against me. We watched the sun go
down and no one said anything until the sky grew dark as ash and the
stars began twinkling like beacons for us, letting us know that we were
safe now.

R-"Well i guess we can call that another good day ha?" I said with a
smile in my voice.

N-"You know, why do i get the feeling that you didn't really need my
help walking." Nena turned my head with her delicate little hands and
kissed my nose softly.

R-"Now why would you get that idea." I caught her small hands in mine
and we sat there talking about everything that happened today. Our
thoughts, feelings, fears, until we both drifted off to sleep glad to
feel the warmth of the others body next to ours.
