Waking up in a war can be a difficult thing. Having no memory of who you are can be even harder.

flash a quick witted smile hoping everything works my way.

“Not quite” I say as I turn quickly and jump through the window. Shards
of glass fly around me as it shatters from the force of my body.

“Nooo” he yells as he tries to grab for me then watches me plummet to
the ground. He shouts to the sky “Streamline he's exited the building
don't lose him!”

I close my eyes as I feel myself dropping like a stone to the ground
waiting for what's to come. The air rushes by me, cold against my skin.
I would have expected a thousand things to cross my mind before I die
but at this moment...nothing. No dreams left unfilled, no memories or
ideas. My mind idles blank as there is no recollection of my past at
all. Suddenly a quick rush of pressure rushes over my body as I feel
myself hit the ground. I lay there motionless wondering how I'm still
breathing. I start by wiggling my toes and fingers. Besides soreness in
my muscles everything appears to be fine. How could I have fallen such
a great distance and still be perfectly fine? I get up to see what I
landed on and its pure concrete. Its dark outside and difficult to see
as I examine my arms for cuts or bruises. My skin is hard, smooth and
cold. Rain pours down making my skin slick but I can hardly feel it. Am
I paralyzed? Lighting erupts from the skies illuminating my
surroundings. I can see my skin now and it shines in the light. The
silver reflects in my eyes. Ripping off the hospital gown I find my
entire body is encased in some kind of metal. My head begins to spin as
to what I'm discovering. I look down at my chest then up to the eye and
scream “What am I?!” I fall to my hands and knees as the sound of the
rain drowns out the night around me.

“You want to know what you are kid?”

I slowly raise my head towards the medical building to see the grey
figure walking out the main doors. I look around for possible exit
routes and little by little get to my feet.

“Don't try to run it won't help you we have eyes everywhere” he says
pointing towards the sky. I look up to see a bat-like figure circling
overhead. I meet his fierce gaze dead on.

“What do you want from me?”

“Oh it's not what I wan't, this is for the greater good kid. I'm saving
our species and your going to help. As far as what you are...well
you're dead.” He opens his mouth and I raise my arms across my face
ready to be engulfed. It hits me like a wall I wasn't expecting and
knocks me off my feet. My skin burns but as the smoke dissipates I'm
still intact unlike the unfortunate men before me.

“What! How are you still alive?” He stares in awe at the fact I'm still
in one piece. I'm pretty amazed myself but after the fall it doesn't
surprise me. Who knows what kind of feats my mew abilities can
accomplish. All of a sudden sirens start to blare through the city and
the grey figure looks around nervously.

“Hey Cinder we've got company lets get out of here” a voice comes from
the creature flying above. Another flash of lightning ignites the sky
and in a single moment I look back and they're gone. I hear a rumble
along the streets as trucks start pulling up all around. Their
floodlights blind me and as the soldiers start exiting the trucks I
panic. Maybe I did something wrong and there here to kill me? I hear
them shouting after me but don't take time to make out the words. I run
into the darkness of an alleyway and keep running until my legs almost
give out which doesn't take long in my weakened state. I hear a voice
call from a small doorway in the alley.

“Come here.”

My first instinct tells me to keep going and never look back. Something
about the voice seems soothing and I can't seem to move past it. I step
in front of the doorway and peer through but can only see darkness
inside. My heart is beating fast and I'm breathing hard from the run.
My eyes begin to droop as I fight off the shadows that appear to be
enclosing around me. I drop to me knees and feel a soft hand set atop
my shoulder keeping me from falling forward. Finally I can fight it no
more and my head falls down unconscious as I black out.
