"Did you guys have a fight? I can't see you guys fighting and not
speaking to each other at all," Nick sounded truly shocked.

" Last time I spoke to her was a year ago. She had some issues that she
needed to deal with," she smiled softly but felt her eyes filling with
tears. She was going to refrain from crying or admitting that she was
upset.

"What kind of issues?" he wanted to know. She searched for an answer
cause she really did not want to tell him and then she felt a tap on
her shoulder. She turned to see that it was her turn and she stood
with her back to the wall. She hated her picture being taken and more
than anything; she wanted to dodge the shot. Though on the other hand,
it had saved her from an uncomfortable situation with Nick. Nick made
faces at her and she struggled not to laugh. He stuck his tongue out
and she fought the childish reaction to stick out hers.

"Shoulders to the wall," the woman instructed and Jack followed suite.
The camera flashed and she was released from the picture chains. Nick
grinned at her then sheepishly walked up to take his turn for the
camera torture. She looked at her envelope and it said "Infra Red"
which on the decoder ended up being Martin. Disappointment swelled up
in her chest and she swallowed a gulp of anger. She needed to keep
control of her emotions even though she was a teenager girl. She had
been having slight issues without keeping her anger under control ever
since Brenda and her had parted ways.

"Darn it, we got Martin," Jack moped. Martin was not that bad of a
cabin but it was supposed to be haunted and it was not very large at
all.

"I know, it sucks," Jamie exclaimed and Jack had to agree. She had
usually been on the other side of the camp and she knew her way around
by heart but on the side with Martin, she was, well, a stranger. Kind
of how she felt amongst all these people who saw each other year round
when they only saw her, once or twice a year. That was what happened
when one lived as she did but that could not be helped, at least not
yet. She could hardly wait until she was eighteen, only one year and
three weeks left to go.

After everyone had got situated in their cabin, they had to go to
Memorial Hall. They had to be greeted by the welcoming committee,
learn all the rules, and do whatever they were instructed at Memorial
Hall. The group trudged down and Jack shivered from the cold wind. It
was so brisk and chilly, perhaps they were in for some snow but Jack
highly doubted that. They barely ever saw snow, in fact she had only
seen snow once in the nine years that she had been going. It had been
her first year at camp and it had been so memorable.

"I forgot my jacket. I'm going to go back and get it," she smiled at
her friends. She was really cold and was not used to the frigid air.

"Do you want me to come back with you?" Erin inquired. She was really
sweet but Jack always felt as if Erin were just putting up with her.
Erin was a part of the in crowd and she fit the position perfectly.
Jack had always been one of the outcasts and Jennifer had accepted her
without any question. Jack wished she could stop thinking about her
past best friend but camp was a big reminder. Perhaps, it wasn't too
late to patch things up, but then again it had been a year.

"No, I'll be fine. Save a spot for me," she waved and turned back
around, away from the bustling Memorial Hall, which was already almost
full. She wasn't exactly looking forward to sitting in the
overcrowded, super noisy, hot, and smelly little building but it was
tradition and rule so she supposed she should come back even though she
really did not want to. She hardly wanted to do anything anymore.
Life had just lost it's interest for her and everything seemed to bore
her.

She was feeling somewhat ill at ease as she walked away from the noisy
Memorial Hall and then she stepped into the Recreational Field. Her
heart jumped into her throat and blocked the air passage. Her skin
became dotted with drops of sweat and her body became extremely cold.
She had never felt such a deep foreboding and pure terror as she did at
that moment. Something, something evil, was near, not in the actual
camp, but waiting outside. Everything in her body told her to run but
she wanted her coat so she cautiously crossed the field with a
forbidding knot in her stomach. She reached her cabin with no
incidents but she could not shake the feeling that heavily weighed on
her shoulders.

Instead of crossing the field again and exposing herself to whatever was
lurking outside of the camp boundaries, she took the long way around
the field and ravine back to Memorial Hall. By the time she arrived,
the meeting had begun and there was no way she could find her friends
without disturbing people.

She groaned with irritation and swore that next time she would remember
her jacket. Hopefully not like Brenda had always remembered her
camera. That thought made her want to laugh and then it made her want
to cry but she ignored the thought and continued on.

She slipped in the back and saw her all time crush, David, and his
friend, Ricky, sitting in the back. She sighed for he was so cute.
She had the hots for him so bad but was too shy to say a word to him.
All she did was stare, dream, and pray that she would someday get him.
She searched for her friends and cautiously looked over at David. It
was bad timing for he looked right at her and they made eye contact.
She blushed but suddenly he smiled at her. He whispered something to
Ricky whereas Ricky responded. David patted the floor beside him and
Jack could barely contain her excitement. She forced herself to walk
steadily over and she calmly sat down. She decided this was easier
than trying to maneuver a position near her church pals, anyways, she
liked this seat better.

"Hi, what's your name?" David asked, his voice so deep that it hummed
when he spoke. She loved to listen to him talk for he had such a sexy
voice. She thought that the most attractive, physical features of a
male were his voice and eyes. David was up on both features.

"Jack," she replied. She felt giddy and as if she were about to faint.
He was so hot and she had never liked a guy quite as much as she liked
him.

"Jack? Oh come on, what's your name?" he pressed. His grin and eyes
were teasing and he had the cutest dimples in his cheeks. He had such
a mischievous face that Jack had to wonder how much trouble he got in a
day.

"Everyone calls me Jack and it has been that way since I was four years
old. Nobody ever calls you anything but your real name?" she smiled.
She could not believe that this was happening.

"Well, alright, yeah they have, my name is David and this is Ricky," he
pointed to his friend who had the appearance of Deputy Duey from Scream
One, Two, and Three.

"Hi," Jack waved and Ricky nodded his head in return. He even moved as
Deputy Duey and she bit her tongue in order to keep from telling him
that.

"I've seen you before," David mumbled. He studied her face with his
intense blue eyes and she felt as if she couldn't breath, she was so
excited.

"Yeah, last winter camp," she remembered. Her heart leapt with hope,
did he remember her? Did she stand out in his mind or was she just
another face? Oh how she prayed fervently with hope against hope that
she had mattered to him, even if it were only a tiny little bit. She
just wished that she had not been another face or just Tonya's friend.

"Oh that's right. You were the cute chick that hung out with Tonya and
that other girl, Brenda, weren't you?" he pointed out. Her heart
seemed to skip a beat and she smiled faintly though her heart twanged
at the name of Brenda.

"Yep, that was me. You think I'm cute?" she blushed. This could not be
happening to her. It was too good to be true and she had a very hard
time believing that it could be possible. He thought she was cute?
She had died and gone to heaven or she was dreaming but she knew
neither one was true.

"Um, uh, well, um, yeah, um, I guess," he squirmed uncomfortably and his
blue eyes were brightened by the red tinge in his cheeks.

"Thanks, and well, I think you're really cute too. I mean with those
blue eyes, dark hair and skin, your voice, and your personality, what
girl wouldn't?" she laughed. He squirmed but it was apparent in his
eyes that he was pleased by her compliments. She was so happy for she
had never suspected that she would get her man and that she would say
all that she had. She was so shy and quiet but she had broken her
chains and conquered her heartthrob. She had actually done something
without even thinking twice about it in the love area and she was sure
she was going to be rewarded for her mouth speaking upon it's own will.
She was now interested in something besides making life more
interesting.

Even though David never normally got into what was going on, Jack
convinced him to dance and he was so adorable doing it. He was about
as sociable as Jack was, actually a bit less but somehow Jack dragged
him out onto the dance floor. It was amazing and so much like her
dreams. She had a hard time believing what was going on. The night
was filled with laughter and for once, it included David and Ricky.

It was finally time to go back to their cabins and Jack was giddy with
happiness. David walked with his arm around her waist and Ricky walked
beside them. They seemed the perfect picture of youth, enjoying the
moment as it flew by and having no cares for the consequence nor the
future. At least, for the time being. They were laughing and talking
when they walked into the Recreation Field. They stopped dead in their
tracks. On all of their faces was the expression of horror and disgust
along with bewilderment.

"Do you guys feel that?" David asked as he looked around in confusion.
Jack had froze and was swallowing the terror that was in her throat.
The evil pulsated and seemed to stretch forth as if attempting to
swallow the three teenagers whole.

"I felt it earlier," she stuttered and shivered. Ricky only smiled
nervously and rubbed his shoulders. The corner of his mustache
twitched nervously and his eyes were wide with fear.

"Come on, we've got to get Miss Jack here, to her cabin," David
instructed and they continued walking but the laughter and talk was
forced. The incident had frightened them all and drained the care free
spirit from their bodies. They reached Martin and Ricky waited for
David at the bottom of the stairs. David and Jack trekked up the
stairs to reach the porch and they stood under the light.

"Um, I guess I'll see you tomorrow," Jack grinned sheepishly. She had
no idea what to say next. She wished that he would kiss her but she
knew that would never happen and she was too shy to make the first
move. This was a very awkward moment and she had no idea what to do.

"Uh yeah," David looked around as if he too were unsure of what to say.
She started to turn around when David grabbed her arm. She was
uncertain of what was going to happen next but she looked forward to
whatever was going to fall through.

"Wait," he mumbled. His voice was even lower when it was close to a
whisper.

"What?" she turned around and he grinned. His hand cupped the side of
her face and they tilted their faces in for a kiss. She closed her
eyes and felt his lips gently touch hers. It was a cautious kiss as if
he were unsure of her reaction. She slipped a hand around his neck and
his tongue slipped past her lips.

Suddenly the door flew wide open with Tracy standing there.

"Ahem," she cleared her throat. David and Jack pulled away instantly
and each played with their hair. She was so disappointed for Tracy had
the worse timing. It didn't really matter for the kiss had been
incredible and she knew if he did it once, he would do it again. She
looked eagerly towards that moment and prayed that it would be soon.

"I was just going out to look for you. I didn't expect to find you so
close nor so busy," Tracy joked. She was giggling quietly and Jack was
so embarrassed. Her first kiss and she was being picked on, not even
by her guardians.

"Um, we were just saying goodnight," Jack looked away with guilt. What
was she supposed to say? How was she going to avoid the teasing and
scolding that she was going to receive? How would she keep Tracy's big
mouth shut?

"Uh yeah, goodnight," David gave her a disappointed look but it was also
triumphant before walking down the stairs to Ricky below. She watched
him walk down and sighed. He turned back at the bottom of the steps
and waved along with Ricky. She waved back and blew a kiss to David.
He returned the motion and she sighed again. She could not believe
that she was so lucky.

"Saying goodnight? It didn't look like talking to me," Tracy teased.

"Leave me alone," Jack blushed and pushed through the door. She wanted
to escape but Tracy was determined not to leave her alone.

"Wasn't that David?" Tracy inquired.

"Where was she?" Erin wanted to know.

"Making out with, I'm pretty sure it was David, on the porch," Tracy
replied.

"No way," Theresa exclaimed.

"Let me be," she ducked into the restroom where she sighed and leaned
the back of her head on the wall. She wasn't sure what had happened
but she liked it. When she went to bed, she could only think of his
dreamy smile and the kiss, her first. She carved in the wall messages
about David, his looks and his personality.

When she dreamed, a darker vision took place.

The snow rapidly fell from the sky, huge snowflakes that were very
visible to the naked eye. They covered the ground at first like a
delicate lacework but began to pile upon each other until they were up
to the porch and then higher. The entrance to camp became blocked with
snow that became so packed that it became ice. The trees were covered,
the cabins were covered, and more. Sleepy campers walked out of the
cabin and were taken aback by the mass amount of snow. Never before
had they ever seen such vast amounts of frozen water falling from the
sky at camp. In fact, they were lucky if they saw a few snowflakes.
The celebrations began immediately and everyone had a hard time
focusing on anything with the continual fall of snow. Then the night
came and a pair of love-struck campers accidentally wandered out of
camp for the barbwire was buried under feet of snow. Suddenly a dark
red light, like that of fire, lit the snow and there was a high pitched
droning noise. Then it vanished and there was only a melted puddle of
snow where the snuggling couple had been. It was soon filled in with
the snow that still fell. Then Jack's face was reflected in the snow
and she woke up with a start.

She was inside her cabin, cuddled in her sleeping bag, whilst she was
surrounded by her sleeping companions. She sat up in order to get a
fresh batch of air to her lungs without feeling as if she were
smothered.

"Are you having a hard time sleeping?" Tonya inquired.

"What are you doing awake?" Jack asked. Tonya had startled her and she
was curious as to why her friend was awake. They had never been very
close but after Jennifer had snapped, they had became a lot closer.

"I can't sleep. I've been having weird dreams. Something about snow,
fire, and disappearing people," Tonya laughed.

"So have I," Jack whispered in shock. Her heart pounded furiously
against her rib cage and her fists curled up around her sleeping bag.
Terror swelled through her veins and she felt as if she were back in
the Recreation Field.

"What?" Tonya sounded as if she had been hit. Just then Paula's alarm
went off and several girls sat up. It was time to get up and Jack knew
that she would not be able to speak with Tonya again, privately, about
the dreams. She sank into her sleeping bag and read the messages
carved into her bunk and wall.

"Good morning," Paula announced and the chaos of twenty-two girls
needing to be pretty for the day began. When the breakfast bell rang.
Jack tottered down towards the mess hall with Tracy and Christy.

"So how was the kiss last night?" Tracy urged for answers.

"It was wonderful," Jack sighed and blushed. It truly was for she had
never experienced anything else so uplifting and gratifying. It had
been incredible.

"You actually kissed him?" Christy sounded as if she were shocked.

"Yeah, I don't know how it happened but it did and it was so perfect,"
Jack grinned as they approached the Mess Hall. Perfect was the right
word for even though Tracy had interrupted the kiss, it had been a
sweet offer and obvious that he wanted a relationship.

"So was it like a tongue kiss or a peck?" Tracy wanted details.

"I don't kiss and tell, anyways, we're too close to the Mess Hall, he
might hear us," Jack giggled. They strode into the Mess Hall and she
looked around for her crush. She saw him sitting with Ricky and his
counselor. He was eating but it was like he sensed her for he looked
up, right at her. He broke into a toothy smile and waved for her and
her friends to come sit with them. She smiled broadly and knew where
she was sitting. She would follow him to the ends of the Earth if
needed.

"Ooh, lover boy wants us to sit with him," Tracy elbowed Jack. She
smacked Tracy and walked with confidence over to his table. They
wanted to pick on her, well she would show them and actually sit with
him and make conversation.

"Good morning," she smiled. Her body sent chills down her back for
sitting with him was something she had wanted to do for a very long
time.

"Hi, did you have a nice sleep?" he wondered. Jack's smile faltered and
her mind searched for an answer. Should she tell him the truth or just
let it slide?

"Oh yeah, um, yeah, I had a perfect rest," she responded even though her
entire body scoffed at the thought. She could not tell him what she
had dreamed for she was fearful that if she did, it might come true.
David looked at her with curiosity and opened his mouth to say
something, but thought better of it and shut it with a slight intake of
air.

Someone yelled, "Look, it's snowing!" Everyone rushed to the windows
where surely enough, little snowflakes were falling. Terror dropped
like a stone into her gut and the blood drained from her face. She was
beyond astonished, this was too much like her dream.

"Wow, I didn't think it would snow," David laughed.

"Cool," Jack swallowed fearfully and then she saw Tonya. She stood in
the corner, her arms wrapped around herself, and she was shivering with
fear. David pulled her close to him and she gently laid her head on
his shoulder. She knew they were in for a snow-in but what was waiting
for the snow? More like, what was waiting in the snow?

After breakfast, everyone raced outside. The snowflakes were bigger and
heavier, making snowballs possible. Jack broke away from the group as
soon as possible and practically ran to the Recreation Field. She knew
a spot where the barbwire was broken down and she could cross over to
the other side. She had no idea why she was going over but everything
in her body said that it was a necessity.

She walked into the field and felt... nothing. She looked around to
make sure that nobody was within eye sight then she stepped onto the
other side of the wire fence. She felt nothing and walked a bit
farther out. She wasn't sure what she as expecting but somehow she
knew that it was expecting her.

She suddenly became aware that something large, dark, and foul smelling
was moving down the mountain towards her. Something huge and pure
evil. She wanted to run but something in her told her to stay. She
knew in her heart that she had to fight and defeat whatever was taking
it's time to reach her. She could hear rocks and small logs sliding
down the side as the creature shoved through the underbrush. Small
trees and several of the big ones seemed as if they were parting. Jack
began to shake with pure terror and she could hear her own teeth
chattering. This was more than she could handle, more than she was
prepared to go up against.

"Jack, what are you doing out there?" David called and she whirled
around to see him stepping out of the camp. She turned back around but
the evil entity was gone. David had scared it off or it had only been
strong enough to take on one human. Either thought was a little
encouraging.

"I was, uh, having devotion time," she swiftly lied. She felt so bad
for lying to him about everything but she was afraid to tell him the
truth. Especially after what she had seen and felt coming down to get
her. He might think she was crazy or laugh outright in her face.

"Come on, let's go back in," he grabbed her hand and began pulling her
back to camp. She cast a nervous glance over her shoulder but could
neither see or sense anything. They walked across the still powdery
snow, holding hands, all the way to the Memorial Hall. She got a warm
fuzzy feeling in her stomach from holding his hand and sighed with
happiness. The incident outside of camp was for the time, forgotten.

On the way there, he asked, "I know we won't see each other very much
but um, will you be my girlfriend?" Jack felt all tingly inside and she
brought his frozen hand to her lips and kissed it softly. She was in
dreamland and she had waited so long for even a slight chance with him
and now she had it so easy, it was a bit overwhelming.

"Of course," she smiled and lowered his hand. He pulled her to his
chest and planted a kiss on her lips. She pulled her head from his and
lay it on his shoulder. She liked just being held by him and being
with him. It seemed as if he made her world go round. She felt as if
as long as she were in his arms, nothing could hurt her nor kill her.
She wondered if this was what love felt like.

During Memorial Hall, everyone was watching out the windows instead of
paying attention to the sermons. The piles of snow rose higher and
higher as if they were never going to end. Everywhere, there were
people itching to go out and play in the snow. David was included but
Jack only watched with growing apprehension. Something was waiting for
or in it was just like her dream, and Tonya's dream.
