into the candlelit ballroom. She had never seen such opulence before.
To her left was a wide dance floor, to the right a bandstand and a
crowd of tables. Beyond the tables stood a pair of French doors open to
the night air. She was about to head for the food when a soft voice
spoke from behind. Look up..

Surprised and excited she turned to see her best friend Kasie standing
next to her. Happy to see another friendly face she whispered. What
happened to staying home and watching another Buffy rerun? Billy's car
broke down and I gave him a ride. Lifting one shoulder in a slight
shrug she tried to smile but it didn't reach her eyes. I hadn't planned
on staying besides i look like a pizza delivery person at a prom.

Suddenly angry Jade fixed Kasie with a stern glare. She hated it when
her acted like this. Kasie was Smart funny and cute. Lots of guys would
love her if only she would stop being so hard on herself. So she
didn't't have on a ball gown on. There were days when she wished she
could look half as good as Kasie did. Are you nuts! Take a good look
around you and then tell me you want to go home. Smirking she glanced
around the room and with another lift of her shoulders said. I want to
go home. I bet you didn't't see the Louis and Lestat look-alikes over
there in the corner. Eyes wide and grinning from ear to ear the redhead
turned her gaze to far corners of the room with a hungry smile. Ok, Ill
stay for a little while but I did promise mom and Kari id help them
clean the house. Do you think there's an Armand look alike running
around...

Shaking her head Jade laughed and linked arms with the other girl..
Kasie's fascination with vampires was like calling an ocean a lake. She
had thousands of book's movies and posters all on vampires. No man
would capture Kasie's heart unless he had long hair and fangs. She
herself had a love of vampires but Kasie's bordered on obsession. Good
I'm glad you will stay, I could use some moral support right about now.
Have you eaten yet? I'm not even going to try it. She said with an
exaggerated sigh. They have food with names I cant even pronounce.

Smiling warmly jade took kasies arm and led her into the throng of
partygoers. All work and no play Was not the way to go, At least not
for tonight. Besides no one ever said she couldn't't mix business with
pleasure. An hour later she spotted Billy pacing by the open doors of
the veranda. Every few seconds he would nervously look down at his
watch. She couldn't help but smile as she slipped up behind him. You
look like your waiting for the grim reaper to appear? she said, giving
him a teasing smile as she reached out to touch his elbow. Startled he
Jumped as if stung. With a sheepish grin he slipped an arm around her
waist. I'm sorry Jade I thought you were Kate. Relaxing he handed her a
glass of champagne from a nearby table and held up his arm to her. I
guess you want to start the interview? It's now or never. She said,
taking the offered glass of champagne. It had been a long time since
she had enjoyed her job. Not wanting to get serious yet she pulled
Billy to a stop and hugged him impulsively. He looked good in a pair of
tight faded jeans, lose black t shirt and leather vest. His long blond
hair was loose and flowing, making him look younger than he was. She
kissed him lightly on the cheek, smiling up at him. Have I ever told
you how much I appreciate all the things you have done for me? How am I
ever going to repay you? You can start by keeping Kate on a leash. She
winked. “ I think I have a muzzle in the car. Sorry...she just wont
shut up about the break up...she blames everyone but herself. Please
don't let her bother you. It's her problem. I just came for a story...

Nodding Billy led her into a small curtained alcove off of the ballroom.
Once inside he led her to a cushioned loveseat. Lounging Across from
them was a tall man who was deeply engrossed in a well-built bottled
blond. Clearing his throat Billy nudged the man with his foot. Blaze,
Id like you too meet a friend of mine...she's here to do an interview
for an article she's writing. His arm still around the woman's waist he
narrowed Violet eyes at them and waved Billy over to a nearby chair.
She don't look like a writer, he growled, giving Jade a sly smile and a
wink. And what do I look like? She countered with a slight frown.
Licking his lips her eyed her tight skirt. a cruel smirk pulling at the
corners of his mouth as she stepped further into the room. a great
fuck. He purred, smirking up at her, hunger shining in his eyes.
Rolling his eyes at Blaze Billy sank into a chair with a sulky frown.
He hated it when blaze acted so crude. Jade, id like you to meet Blaze
Darkwind, Blaze this is Jade Noir. He can be a bit of an ass so please
forgive his boorish behavior. Snorting, blaze reached out, Sliding one
strong hand into her small soft one. his eyes never leaving her face he
Brought the back of her hand up to his lips and gently kissed it. The
wicked smile never leaving his handsome face. A pleasure... He purred.

Letting go of her hand he sat up, Pushing the bottled blond at Billy.
Why don't you two go get us some drinks. His frown depends as Billy
turned to Jade. Are you sure you want to do this? He asked her with a
pained smile. Ill be fine. She said with a laugh and a wave of her
hand. Giving Blaze a warning look, he pushes the blond out the door and
disappeared through the curtain. Leaving them alone within the confined
space of the room. Fighting the urge to babble she fished her notepad
and a pen from her purse, she suddenly wished kasie or even kate would
make a sudden appearance. Anything to distract her from his stare.
Chuckling He reached out to take the items from her trembling fingers.
I don't bite. He said with a disarming smile. Much.

Catching her totally off guard she tried to laugh as a blush spread over
her cheeks. Blaze was even more handsome than she had ever thought. He
was tall with long Jet black hair, high cheekbones and the lean
muscular body of a god. His hands were cool, almost cold. His nails had
been painted black and he wore several jeweled rings. Dressed in a
blue velvet shirt and leather pants he reminded her more of a gothic
prince than a auntrpanuer. With one strong hand he reached out to cup
her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. Why don't we start by getting
to know each other first? Flustered she smiled and tried not to squirm.
" Id love to but I have a deadline to make and don't have much time
left. Could I show you around the house while you pick my brain then?
Shrugging she slid her notepad back into her purse and rose up off of
the couch to take his arm. Together they walked out into the main hall
now deserted except for a few lingering people.

From the buffet table Kasie watched as Jade exited with the tall
stranger. Her heart sank When they disappeared into the crowd. she had
been hoped Jade would have introduced her to a few people before
leaving her at the table but it didn't look likely as the pair stepped
out. Jade had always made her feel so at ease. She could act like
herself when Jade was around. She hadn't seen Billy in an hour or more
and Kate had gone off on one of the arms of the three men she had been
hanging on most of the evening. Suddenly not hungry she set her small
plate down and looked for a place to sit. she felt desperately alone
and out of place in such a setting. The few parties she had gone to had
been bashes thrown by Billy's goth friends. Fighting tears she quickly
walked to the open French doors and slipped out into the cool night
air. Out here she could breath. Following a stone path she made her
way to a large, softly lit stone fountain. It was peacefully quiet
here, a place she could sit and think. Sinking down to the lip of the
fountain she sighed. Wiping her tears she stared at her reflection in
the glasslike water. She had never felt so lonely in her short life.
She had never been smart, like jade or witty, like Kate. She had gone
on a few dates and kissed a few guys but other than that she was
batting zero. Animals, Si-fi-, and vampires were her life. Burying her
head in her arms she began to cry softly. Are you alright? Startled she
jumped up nearly pitching backwards into the dark water, missing a
dunking by inches as a pair of strong hands pulls her to safety.
Shaking and embarrassed she stood on rubbery legs. Still clinging to
his arm she Quickly brushed the tears away and smiled apologetically up
at him. Thanks". She said with a shaky laugh. Speaking gently he
smiled down at her. Forgive me. I didn't't mean to spook you. No, its
my fault rely I shouldn't't have been out here. It's just that I was
looking for my friends and I guess I wandered a bit to far. I should
get back before they send out the blood hounds. Do you mind if I walk
with you then? For the first time she glanced up, meeting his gaze.
Without warning her heart leapt causing her to take a step back from
him. She had never seen anyone as handsome as this man. He reminded her
of the man that jade had left with, but the stranger standing before
her was taller and thinner with more of a boyish face. His hair was a
bit shorter, his eyes a different color but other than that they could
have been brothers. She almost asked and thought better of it. Blushing
now she realized he was still holding her hand. Reluctantly she pulled
away and almost fell again. Giving her a concerned look he led her
back along the path.

Are you sure you're ok? You look flushed. I'm fine. She lied. Just
tired. Thanks for walking me back. It's not a problem. He said, giving
her a soothing smile and squeeze of his hand. I was just on my way to
check on the horses when I saw you. Her eyes lit up at the mention of
horses. Shivering again she matched his grin. I love horses, always
wanted one but my sisters allergic to them. We have a full stable. he
said with a gentle laugh. would you like to see them? Only if your sure
its ok. Chuckling once more he gave her a wink. Only if you can stand
my company for a while. What is you name M'lady? Kasie. And you are?
Kelly. Kelly cooper...it's a pleasure miss kasie. Are you ready?

Her eyes grew wide as she realized who he was. Kelly was One of the men
Jade had come to the party to interview. Which meant he was also the
owner of her favorite Goth store and president of Darkwinds inc.
Grinning impishly she toke his arm and laughed to herself. Maybe this
night would not be so bad after all she thought." I'm ready.” She said
with a sweet smile. Nodding he smiled down at her as he took her arm
and led her away from the noise and light of the party.
