Jonathan winced at the thickness of the cough. “No, it's what I
think.... Besides, you know you want to see Sushi again... And when I
die, we can all run around with each other doing stuff!”

There was a tinge of sadness in his voice as he said the “happy”
exclamation, keeping them tied down to earth as they both knew that
time would be very far off.

“But... I don't want to die... I want to stay here, with you, and live
the rest of my life with you, and make sure you're taken care of and
---” Jonathan broke of the wishes with a kiss; he didn't want to hear
it. It was already enough seeing her die, he didnt want to think of
what could've and should've been.

Taylor pulled away gently. “You'll get sick. Don't. It's disgusting.”

“Better me than you”, he said as he stroked her hair gently, savoring
everything about her he had taken for granted in the last months.
“‘Cause then you'll be alive.”

Taylor smiled. “Great last few minutes. Some of the best I've ever had.”
She laughed, but it came out more like a wheeze.

“I wanted my last with you... partly to make sure you didn't do anything
stupid”, she continued. “I want you to keep living, move on, live
you're life... but don't forget the fragility of a human life.” At that
point she began coughing again, and gulped for air after a few seconds,
her body shaking with effort.

Jonathan nearly started crying again at that remark. How could he live
without his best friend and his most trusted ally? How?

Then there was a silence, a natural break in time, until Taylor got over
her wheezing.

“Just... don't let go of me until I die... please....” A tear rolled
down Taylor's cheek and Jonathan wiped it away.

“I don't want to ever let you go. Not even after. They'll have to pry
you from my arms.” He tightened his grip slighty and a tear from his
cheek landed on her's.

**************

It was a few minutes until Jonathan heard his sweetheart's shaking
breath stop coming, and felt the life leave her body, but for about
thirty minutes after, he held her in his arms and cried silently,
remembering the good times and the bad, until he finally half accepted
that she was gone.

He raised his tearstained face and remembered her last words: “Don't
forget the fragility of a human life...” He repeated this to himself
until he saved it in his memory forever, along with Taylor's beautiful
smile and her fight to live.

He gently put her down on the bed again, wiped his tears off his face
and hers, and looked at her. She was still wearing the pieces of
jewelry he gave her. He smiled a bittersweet smile.

“My only diehard fan...”

He kissed her lips softly, tenderly, as though she was sleeping and he
didn't want to wake her.

“I'll see you in eternity, my love.”

With that, he tore himself away and walked to the door. He hesitated. He
turned back and whispered something he hated whispering to her on a
regular basis.

“I love you baby, I love you.”

With that, he walked out the door, and got ready to go home to save the
pictures in the memories, forever in her image.
