"Okay," she nodded sleepily, "What about Krista? I bet she'd like to
come. Oh, and Billy Ray, he'd be a good person to introduce."

"Man, our new neighbors are gone be bombarded by a ton of teenagers.
Sounds like fun to me. Hurry up and get dressed, your momma made us
all panacakes," she shook her again just to be sure then left the room.
Jenny soon joined them and found that all of her siblings were going.
Rooster and Anna wanted to meet the new neighbors and Will wanted to
come along for he and Max were the same age. Will was only ten years
old, he'd been a surprise baby, which made him the perfect playmate for
Max, Cordelia's surprise baby brother.

By the time they reached the Kdowskis, their group had grown enormous.
They looked like an army on bikes. Jackie's little sister, Shelia, had
come too as she had a small crush on Will and wanted to go anywhere
that he did. The Kdowskis house was a two story farmhouse mansion,
they'd been quite rich as apparently it's new occupants were. When
they knocked upon the door, they were greeted by a pinched nose maid
who ushered them into the sitting room. There was air conditioning and
ceiling fans and the furniture was expensive enough to make them all
uncomfortable.

"I bet the stuff in this room alone is worth our house," Rooster mumbled
and they all chuckled nervously. At that moment, a set of twins
appeared in the doorway. They were exactly the same height, both with
white blonde hair, icy gray eyes, freckles across their cheeks and
noses, little heart shaped mouths and the same skinny body type. The
girl was dressed in light blue sweater and plaid skirt with white knee
high socks and black leather shoes. Her blonde hair was held from her
face by a blue ribbon and tiny diamond dangles hung from her ears. Her
brother wore a matching blue sweater, plaid pants, and black leather
shoes. They looked eerily perfect and at home among the splendors of
their new home.

"Hello, I am Florence and this is my brother, Gregory. Welcome to our
humble home, I trust you have been made comfortable," her voice was as
icy as her eyes but there was an excitement in it too. It was as if
she hadn't ever seen so many children in her home.

Rooster was the first to speak, "Uh yeah, we have. I'm Rooster." With
that, he introduced everyone in the group then added, "We thought we'd
meet the new neighbors and see if you knew about this house."

The twins looked at each other, then Gregory spoke in a surprisingly
deep voice, "Knew what about this house?"

Cordelia piped up, "About the murders that happened here and the
mirror."

"What murders? Are you trying to scare us because we are new? If so,
that's not very kind as we have tried to be very hospitable and welcome
you here," Florence's voice now carried fire.

Jenny quickly interrupted, "We're not trying to scare you. We thought
you should know about this house. There were murders, thirteen of
them, and there's supposed to be a black mirror in this house
somewhere." A chilling silence descended upon the group and it seemed
as if something creaked in the ceiling above them.

"A black mirror?" Gregory was flabbergasted, "If there'd been a black
mirror, we would have seen it."

"Have you been in the basement?" Jackie wanted to know excitedly.

"Of course we've been in the basment. It's our house, surely you don't
think we're so daft that we would have missed a black mirror?" Gregory
questioned, eyeing Jackie boldly.

"Well, what about the attic?" Rooster asked, his voice carrying an
ominous note.

"The attic?" Florence inquired, "I didn't know this house had an attic."
There was something in her voice that said she was afraid of such
places as attics but it seemd as if only Jenny noticed.

"Yes, all the houses out here have attics for storage. Do you have a
hall closet upstairs?" he wanted to know and she nodded, "Well, let's
check it out, shall we?" The twins looked at each other, an unspoken
message passing between them, then they rose and gestured to the group
to follow them. When they reached the closet door, Rooster showed them
the door in the back of the closet and they all trumped up the stairs
into the attic. It was dark and dusty but he had came prepared with a
flashlight in hand.

"I didn't know about this," there was definitely fear in her voice now,
unmistakeable to anyone but still no one acknowledged it. Rooster cast
the beam of the flashlight about and it landed upon a large, sheet
covered object. There were cobwebs clingign to it's surface and the
white sheet was now discolored to a dull gray.

"What is that?" Billy Ray questioned, standing close to Anna, as if
hoping to save her from a swoon.

"Don't know, let's take a peek," Rooster grinned and strode over.

"Maybe we shouldn't," Jackie piped up and Krista added, "Rooster, don't.
Let's just leave it be. It's dark up here and there's obviously
spiders."

Rooster only laughed, "You're not afraid, are you? If it's a mirror,
it's only a mirror. Nothin' to be afraid of." With that, he pulled
off the sheet and when the dust settled, they all gasped in surprise.
It was a black mirror with an ebony frame carved intricately with
horrific monsters torturing humans and animals.

"Oh my gawd," Rebecca moaned, "It exists."

"What is it?" Gregory was fascinated, strolling over and running his
fingers along the carvings, his eyes lit up with awe.

"Do you want to hear the tale?" Rooster inquired and he nodded
furiously.

"Twenty years ago, there was a couple who moved in here with their son.
There was Natalia, Christoph, and their son, Mikel. Soon after they
moved in, the body of a young girl was found stabbed then pagan symbols
were carved into her flesh. No one had any idea who it was, then they
found a young man with similar wounds.

Now everyone was in a tizzy, but there was still no hints as to who it
was. One by one, more teens were found, all stabbed in then carved up.
The son, Mikel, brought home his girlfriend one day to meet his
parents. She met them all right, they stabbed them both for their
satanic ritual. Then Christoph killed Natalia and hung himself. It
was believed from translations of a book found in the house, that they
did it all in the belief that they would be immortal. It is said that
their souls are trapped in this mirror here and that if you chant five
times "black mirror, black mirror, release the souls that you keep",
they will be released."

"That sounds like an enchanting fairy tale but that's it, nothing more,"
Gregory scoffed, still examining the fearsome frame of the mirror.

"If that's true, let's all chant it," Rooster dared and Gregory turned
to face him, a hard look upon his face.

"Rooster, don't. Let's just go back downstairs," Jenny begged, that
cold feeling of fear creeping into her belly.

"No, I think we should do it," Gregory coldly announced, "Prove it's
just a silly urban legend spread by a bunch of backwood hics."

"Hey," Billy Ray spoke, "Screw you too."

Florence took her brother's side, even though it was obvious she was
terrified, "Let's do it. It's just a game."

"I don't want to," Max whimpered but Cordelia comfortingly said, "Let's
do it and you'll see there's nothing to be afraid of." Apparently
Cordelia was all it took to seal the deal and they surrounded the black
mirror.

Gregory and Rooster stared defiantly at each other then started the
chant together, the rest joining in, "Black mirror, black mirror,
release the souls you keep." Again and again, they repeated the lines
until they were spoken five times. There was tension in the air as
they all waited for something, anything to happen, but there was
nothing.

"I told you that it was an urban legend," Gregory laughed triumphantly.
Jenny actually felt disappointed, it was almost a let down that nothing
had happened even though she hadn't really thought anything would.

"Yeah, whatever," Rooster glared at him then decided, "It's late, we
should all be heading back home." As they were leaving, Jenny heard
the pinch nosed maid telling the twins that their parents had to leave
town for a while but if they wanted, they may stay in the hotel with
them for the night before they left. Then the door shut and they were
headed back home.

When they did get home, Rooster fumed about Gregory and his uppety ways.
He raved on and on about what a little prick he was and how if he kept
holding his nose so high in the air, a bird was gonna take a dump down
it. Will wasn't there to be amused by the situation, he'd stayed the
night with Max but Anna and Jenny were laughing at Rooster behind his
back together. Everytime he looked at them, they stifled their
laughter and were somber faced in agreement then he'd turn away and
they'd be smothering giggles.

When Jenny went to sleep that night, she went to sleep thinking of the
hideous black mirror and as such, it tormented her dreams. She was
before it again, the other children with her, but there was something
different. The mirror seemed to be dripping with something, it almost
looked like blood. There were figures dancing inside, getting closer.

Suddenly a woman stepped out, an impossibly beautiful woman. Her skin
was deathly white and her hair, straight, long black hair that hung
beneath her butt. It was her eyes that were most intriguing, dark
pools of inky blackness that refused to break their gaze with Jenny.
She wore tight black pants with a busty black corset top, boots, and
gloves with the fingertips cut off. Long silver earings jingled like
wind chimes from her ears and there was a silver symbol strung about
her neck.

"Jenny," the woman breathed, leaning towards her, "My life essence."
Her friends did not seem to see the woman, but instead were still
focused upon the mirror. There were more coming and she knew that they
were as dangerous as this woman.

The woman whispered, "I will find you." Her voice was heavily accented,
almost difficult to understand but she knew exactly what she was
implying. Other figures stepped out of the mirror, young women and men
as beautiful as the woman before her, distracting Jenny.

When she turned her gaze back to the woman, she had pulled out a cruel
blade and drug the tip across her finger then raised it at Jenny, " I
will find you and take what is mine." Then she lunged and Jenny
screamed, waking herself up from the dark dream. She was back in the
comforts of her room but it did little to console her or soothe the
chills that wracked her body. Somehow, she didn't believe the dream
was merely a figment of her imagination, she believed the woman to be
real.

The farmer had just finished with the last of his hay bales when he
heard something behind him. Quickly he turned to see thirteen figures
approaching beneath the full moon, all dressed in black. Fear stabbed
through him, somehow he knew that they were evil and he fled for his
house to retrieve his shotgun. Whatever they wanted, they'd have to
take it from his cold, dead body.
