“Well, I didn't ask you to come here for me and as though your coming
here would do me any good. In fact I even lost count of --” One look at 
his face and she blurted, “Fine. Thank you!” 

He looked at her intently and she seemed jittery all over again. 

“Everyone's so happy I don't feel like I belong there so...” She dropped
her eyes and toyed with her fingers. “I've decided to just stay here 
and wish you'd look for me. Because then I would have you for myself.” 

She turned to look at his face again and when she saw the shock, she
smirked. “Well, that's sort of grateful,” she told him derisively, 
“Satisfied?” She smiled inside. She had never talked to him like that, 
even when she desperately felt like hurting him. 

He gripped her arms with both of his hands. Hard. She shut her eyes
closed, waiting for him to hurl her down. From here, that would be a 
long way down to the ground, she estimated. But he didn't. Right, the 
guests would talk. She didn't know what he's doing but if he's trying 
to suffocate her, he'll definitely succeed, she thought. Because she 
couldn't breathe right now. 

Then his mouth closed on hers. At one point, she thought it would be
never-ending because they never stopped coming but then he stopped 
abruptly, surprising her. 

“God, I hate it when you do that,” she hissed, then caught her breath. 

“The kissing or the stopping?” he asked. She only stared at him. Then,
he caught her mouth again. “Definitely not the kissing.” 

She looked at him furiously, without saying a word before finally
pointing a finger at him. “You... you stop making fun of me or I'll 
swear to God I'll –” She sighed. “I'm not one of them, Sebastian. I'm 
not one of those girls you could play with.  I'm sorry if my mere 
existence is keeping you from all the things you used to do. But please 
remember, I didn't want this, too. You're not the only one hurting. So 
even if making fun of me makes you forget, don't add up to my load. I'm 
trying to endure all of it but you're making it more difficult and it's 
not fair.” She turned her back at him immediately to walk out the door. 


Sebastian stood with his mouth open for a moment. The distance between
them were growing and he kept asking himself what to do because he'd 
never been to a situation where he's the one who has hurt someone's 
feelings. It's always the other way around and he really never mind. So 
he's never apologized in his life. Because he didn't know how hurting 
feels like. Then, he was walking real fast, he could be running. 

When Nikki sensed him approaching. She stopped and closed her eyes,
waiting for the real blow this time. This is it Nikk. You'll finally be 
paying for what you've said a while ago, she told herself. She hadn't 
prepared for the physical battle yet. 

He stopped inches from her, glad he hadn't actually bumped her. “Nikki,
I—” his voice croaked. He cleared his throat and started to talk but 
when she motioned to face him, he hugged her tight, keeping her back to 
him. “I'm serious about the counting the stars thing... with you.” That 
made her open her eyes. Wide. Then something soft touched her shoulder 
lightly, she wondered if he kissed her shoulder. With that he walked 
past her, stopping only when he reached for the door handle. Thinking 
he's returning, she turned her back at him, afraid he'd see her eyes 
brimming with tears she couldn't fight. “I'm gonna go get the guests. 
You don't have to go back there. I'll tell Pa you need rest,” he said 
without looking back. Nicole remained standing from where she was, 
unconsciously touching the shoulder he kissed minutes after he had gone 
out of the room.
