Who would have known that a simple trip to the grocery store could have ever been so adventurous?

"feeling-sorry-for-myself" stage and telling myself that if I never saw
this store again, it would be too soon. Looking for anything to keep
my mind busy, I began to examine my grandmother. To my amazement, she
didn't look the slightest bit tired. As a matter of fact, she looked
quite comfortable in these surroundings - as if this were her second
home.

All of a sudden, I was jerked out of my thoughts by something. Had I
heard correctly? Was it really time to head for the check-out stand?
At first I thought I was dreaming. Yet when my grandmother pointed
towards the front of the store, I knew it was true. Suddenly, I felt a
spurt of energy coursing through my body, and I had to try very hard
not to race down the aisle towards the check-out stands. The joy I
felt decreased slightly as I noticed the horde of people already in
line. It was the fact that we would be leaving soon that kept me
going. Besides, the cart would hold me up for the time being.

The shopping cart did indeed hold me up. Nowadays, when I look back
over the past three years, I realize this scene was repeated on
numerous occasions - each time ending with me being emotionally and
physically drained and telling myself "never again." But for reasons
unknown, I kept going back again and again, perhaps just to spend some
time with my grandmother. I must admit the duration of my patience
grew longer with each trip although still, I was usually a little
frazzled by the end.

From these experiences, I must admit that I learned two things: 1) Never
go shopping on a Saturday morning, and 2) Never underestimate the
stamina of one's grandmother.
