loneliness

SHE BOUGHT A HOUSE

She bought a house in the country, 

far from anyone, 

and in its tiniest room 

she sat by a window 

that looked upon 

a distant highway 

and watched the traffic come and go. 

. 

Her only visitor 

was the evening sun 

which warmed the papered walls. 

. 

And when she was gone 

dust covered the window 

and decay lived alone.
