Strange Meeting (standard:poetry, 137 words)

A poem about failing to make a connection.

Lost in the hum of an idle conversation, I float along in dignified
disgrace. Speaking wildly in the wonder of my solitude, Silence flows
across my lips And spills into the void of my embrace.

Blinded by our sterile white modernity, I haunt this haze of frosted
isolation Like a spectre of improper anonymity. Emotions fret in
dissembling staccato, Flirting with the truth of my intention.

Head buried in the sound of one eye crying, I am shaken by the shadow of
your soul. Startled as a sleeper from a dream, It seems we trade our
recognition in an instant, Pausing each to memorise the role.

Stumbling over incoherent pleasantries, I dribble words like air from a
balloon And droop into a tangle slightly moist. Silent you depart in
uncertain disbelief, As I rue my onanistic afternoon.
