One man's holocaust.

A sickening heat stifles the narrow loft where an old man stands,
frequently bashing his bald head against the wall. His stomach is 
upset, first with a lack of food, and now with infection. Sweat soaks 
his vest. Tentatively he manoeuvres his exhausted body across the 
rain-warped beams, and crouches in the corner. The stench of several 
days' stools, looking like a clumsy heap of toads, is too much. 
Reluctantly, he scoops the pile of excrement onto a scrap of plywood, 
and hurls it through the jagged hole in the roof. Hearing the sound of 
a passing helicopter, the old man crouches again, but this time to 
conceal himself. The last man of a quartet.
