How many women have had an one-sided conversation with a spouse/lover/significant other? Could he tell the difference between you being genuine? Or did he know you were "Pretending?"

Pretending

“Hello. What's up?”

“Nothing, just sitting here thinking.”

Junk,” She laughs. “What else would I be thinking?”

“My day was boring and long.”

“Sorry, love. How's your stress level?”

“Is there anything I can do?”

Mundane talking from both. Talking about the weather, kids, just stuff
which pops into their heads.

“Yeah, I'm fine.”

“What could be wrong with me?” She laughs again.

“I love you.”

“No, I don't think it's supposed to rain.”

He ignored the offer of her love and covers with more mundane talking.

“Yes, I'm sure I'm fine.”

“Don't you worry about it.”

“It's not your problem. It's mine.”

“I know and work is more important than I am.”

“It's cool, Baby. I love you.”

More cover up and no acknowledgment of her vow.

“Okay, no sweat.”

“Sure, we'll talk more tomorrow. I love you.” She says to a dial tone.

The woman puts the phone on the desk and lays down her head to cry. He
doesn't say he loved her back. Couldn't even say goodbye. Her heart
breaks.
