The Quest for Orion (standard:fantasy, 2158 words)

A would-be knight sets his eyes to the beautiful evening skies upward, toward Orion, trying to find the courage to fulfill his destiny.

spirit! I have been a prisoner of my family's narrow-mindedness. A 
family that has plans for me that will turn me into something which I 
do not want to be...like them! Can you help me escape this wretched 
future, mystery man?", a single tear falls down her cheek,  as she 
speaks softly. 

"I will be most honored to be your guide and protector. Perhaps you were
sent to me by Orion to help me find the courage to love.", he reveals 
in a whisper. 

"Perhaps. Right now, I need to flee quickly for my family is searching
for me this very moment. I need to get far, far away!" 

"Come now, woman, and get on my horse. We ride into the night and I keep
you safe from harm and we will discover a new way to live. Freedom from 
bondage that crush your spirit. Your heart will rejoice in the visions 
of a new and bright future with me!" 

"I know I am a stranger, but can you trust my heart and we will take
this journey together. Be one heart, one mind, and one spirit. You can 
conquer your fears and you shall find the courage you seek. As the 
horse gallops on into the night, these two strangers do not know what 
lies ahead of them but paths crossed are chosen . 

He finds a place to rest the horses for a moment and looks up at Orion
once again. She looks into his eyes. 

"I see the stars in your eyes." 

"Oh really?" 

She looks into his dark eyes, touches his hair. His intense features,
dark and mysterious, yet gentle and vulnerable at the same time are 
irresistible. Tears fill her eyes, --tears of joy. Her hand reaches for 
his, fingers entwine, like a joining of hearts. He takes his hand, 
lifting her chin and bringing her lips to his, kissing them fully, 
softly, tenderly. His eyes look intensely into hers, looking for 
answers, answers he finds in her tears. He kisses her eyes and tastes 
her tears. Like an angel reminding him that Love always finds you and 
it comes softly in the night. 

"I could love you.", he whispers 

She smiles shyly and gives him a sweet kiss. 

"You show great courage loving me." 

"It is as easy as breathing to love you. You are my angel, my star." 

"Hurry, we must get far away! I just barely escaped my family in the
village below. They will surely send me to the convent if we don't get 
far away!" 

"We will ride fast and furious, my sweet woman, do not worry. Orion
protects us and our love is pure and strong like Orion!" 

The forest opens up a path for the two to escape into the night.
Galloping through brush, splashing through streams, stopping to rest 
only long enough to take some apples from a farmer's apple tree, these 
two refugees from Orion, as the saying goes, are guided by the stars to 
their destiny. 

"I have one test I must pass to become a true knight. I must go into the
Cave of Diamonds  and get the Key of Faith. This cave is crawling with 
snakes that guard the Key. I am afraid of snakes!", he says quietly, 
wringing his hands together. 

"Ah, snakes! They are nothing to be afraid of! You can do it! Just
remember how much you want to become a knight! The more you concentrate 
on your goal, the less power your fears have over you! Keep the dream 
alive. I believe in you!" 

The knight waves his hand. 

"Dreams, always dreams with you! Never real life!" 

" Dreams are the wishes we wish when we are awake. If you dream long
enough and hard enough, your dreams will come true ! Don't you know 
that already? You must have faith. You must believe in yourself. I 
believe in you. Why cant you?" 

The dawn skies light up and filter through the leaves of the forest,
creating a prism effect of light and color. Pinks, purples, yellows, 
orange, blue and white greet this brand new day like a song. This sweet 
greeting finds these two strangers fast asleep under a weeping willow 
tree right in the middle of a meadow filled with daisies. He opens his 
eyes and looks at her. Studying her sleeping face like an artist, 
taking in every curve and motion. 

"Beautiful.", he whispers to himself, "Pure and beautiful." 

His hand reaches out to touch the sweetness that fills her being her
very essence is innocence. "These few hours, these simple seconds, have 
been the happiest I have ever known. You do not know how much joy you 
bring to this man, looking down at you this second!" 

"Oh, dear, sweet woman, why don't you tell who you are! I feel like I
know you always! Somehow I do!  My heart bursts for the love of you! I 
know, I know this is love!", he smiles at the very thought. He knows he 
is in the presence pure love. The moment is captured and love is born. 
He looks up at he clouds, drinks in the whole scene before him, the 
blue, blue pond by the edge of the meadow, the ducks swimming, even the 
breeze has a word of joy for him today. 

"Oh, for the heart of you. If you only knew what power you possess over
my heart. This "would be knight would slay a thousand dragons for one 
of your sweet kisses! You have brought me to my knees with your sweet 
love, from the beauty that is you to your pure heart!" 

His eyes grow sleepy and his head falls to her shoulder. He sleeps
peacefully. She stirs and opens her eyes to find him asleep and she 
sees for the first time the innocence of him. Such an intense man so 
angelic in slumber. The transformation is amazing. She puts her cheek 
to his to capture the soft innocence of him, to feel his skin against 
hers against his hard intensity. It is simply beautiful to watch him 
sleep. She is happy. She thinks about his quest, his dream to become a 
knight and to overcome his fear of snakes. He is brave to venture into 
the Cave of Diamonds. She has heard stories about people going inside 
and not coming out again. She strokes his hair. "You are a beautiful 
man, too beautiful for words. Just let me look at you and be 
thankful.", she whispers. 

The tears that fall, release the pent up pride inside of her. 

What wonder, what danger lies ahead for them? She knows now that she can
face anything and be happy in the knowledge that this beautiful man is 
her protector and love. She feels the love pour inside her heart. A 
heart full and pounding inside her chest.  The words swirl inside her 
head like a song.  A lovely melody of  the angels have brought her a 
miracle--the miracle of her dear, beautiful knight. Oh, how her heart 
bursts with love! 

The horses gallop in rhythm for what seems like hours.,The forest is
deep and dark only letting light in once or twice. This quest seems 
endless, but as the two look upward, Orion seems to be defying the day 
and night hours, for it is right there guiding them, each step of the 
way!  Guiding them, showing them the way to the Cave of Diamonds. It is 
so close!! Just a few miles. I see it in the distance...My test, my 
goal, as a knight. I see the cave just ahead! 

"It is blocked...blocked! How can I move the rock that blocks the
cave?", he panics. 

"Do not fear for I am here to help you find your dream. I will help you
push the rock aside and we will venture in the cave together. You can 
do it! We must unite and believe in the dream, for together we are very 
strong. We must put our love to the test and try! " 

"Just try for me!", she whispers as a tear falls down her cheek, 

"Don't be afraid. Have faith in me, in us!" 

She gets off the horse and takes his hand. She feels his fear and takes
his hand and brings it to her cheek. 

"Breathe. We can do this!", she reminds him. 

Together they walk toward the cave entrance and start pushing to rock
aside. It wont budge but as they look into each others eyes and give it 
another hard push, it gives way to open before them. 

It is open. The two venture inside to encounter the snakes...Again, he
panics. She takes his hand and pulls him forward. The air is hot and 
dusty, it is pitch black but for the torches they carry, blazing a 
trail to find the Key of Faith. there are several choices inside the 
Cave of Diamonds. She takes a leap of faith and chooses one path and 
takes his hand which lead them to the treasure chest that contains the 
Key of Faith. 

He opens up the treasure chest as her hand reaches for his, their hands
entwine, both holding the Key of Faith, exiting the cave. Once safely 
outside the cave, they raise the key up toward Orion.  The energy from 
the key fills his heart with courage and bravery. He looks at this 
woman in white and feels a joining of hearts. Holding her close, he 
kisses her with a renewed passion. 

I am a knight now, a true Knight because your love has overcome my fear,
and your heart is bringing me home to you. 

This true knight once again turns his eyes upward toward Orion, the
constellation shining brighter than usual tonight, 

all time seems to stand still, and still watching over him 

and this mystery woman in white that unlocked the mysteries 

of his heart on this Quest for Orion.
