Dodge Ball life and death.

Goliath and David

Dodge ball was always in season. Two red balls the right size for
palming. Cones in each camp for redemption of teammates. My team gone, 
stacked against the wall waiting for next game. The full compliment of 
warriors arrayed against me, I waded through no man's land. The balls 
were mine! Several men were guarding the cone. My team shouted for my 
surrender, hoping to start a new battle. 

My opponents kept their distance not sure of my intent. I lobbed a ball,
an easy catch to end the game. Out of the woodwork they came. The boys 
who hid behind their fellows. Never daring unless to steal the glory of 
surrender. 

Ten came forth hungering for glory, the last catch to end the game. The
other ball shifted to my throwing hand. Only one David could win! I 
cocked and fired. His head upturned looking for the ball. His 
fingertips touching the rubber just as the other exploded against the 
exposed neck. 

The life went out of his fingers as he collapsed. The red orb he prized
was gently pushed in my direction. The missile that felled him arced 
over my head. I gathered up the first ball and turned to retrieve the 
second. 

My side cheered! The coach repeated the mantra, "I can't believe you
fuckin did that!"  Those beside the fallen were silent as they realized 
it could have been them. Time to remove the body before I waded in 
again. 

No cries of surrender! The foes arrayed as before. Again the first ball
arced. They fled, as the Philistines must have. But here Goliath was 
casting the stones! David was being revived by the Nurse. The second 
ball flew toward the now abandoned cone. 

Oh well can't hit em all.
