i'm coming home

You are all so reassuring, saying,

"It will be just fine.

We'll take care of everything,

So you can have a free mind.

We won't let anyone bother you,

Just enjoy our sumptuous fruit trees and our perennial grape vine.

We'll keep our voices low,

We'll ensure that there will be plenty of peace here for you to find."

But don't make me into a living shrine.

Although it is true that I'll never totally leave the past behind.

Treating me like a fragile ornament,

Only adds to my doubts that I can walk life's meticulous line.

But I am looking forward to coming home,

I've had a sign.

I just need to pace myself,

Everyone doesn't have to be extra kind.

I wouldn't be coming back, if I wasn't able to see the sunshine,

Even when there are clouds,

I think I can appreciate the orange and not just see the wrinkled rind.

I have problems to solve, but don't tiptoe around me

Because the issues are all mine.

I do admit, though, that I'm still a little unsure

That I can face each daily grind,

So I will appreciate small bits of assistance,

You can wash the outside, but inside still lies the brine.
