It's bad enough to die by drowning, but when you are murdered that way, it's even worse!

330 Words DESOLUTION BY DROWNING

by

Joe DeMonte

I've got to get the hell out of here before I drown! God, what a way to
go. I'm almost afraid to look up. How did I get in here anyway? I
should have stayed with the others. They're probably all down in the
basement now, or at least in some other safe spot, not even aware of my
predicament. It's really quite funny, in a grim way. I've seen water
before, so many times, and have never been afraid of it. In fact, I
have always considered water rather beautiful; a tranquil, soothing
fluid of the earth. And now it's going to murder me! Damn, what am I
to do? I can't even move now. I'm certain one of my legs is broken,
it pains me so. I wonder how long I will have to wait until I die? I
just hope it's swift. I hate to look up but I have got to know. Well,
that answers that! I don't need a calculator to tell me the score. I
am directly in the line of its path now, and I can't get out of the way
either, because of my leg. And it will come from so far up. The
impact alone when it hits will probably crush me on the spot! Now
there's a thought. Will I be crushed by it or will I drown in it?
Maybe if I could just -- oh, oh, too late, I hear footsteps. Oh, God,
here it comes! Oh, no, no -- no! “Barbara, I'm home. Where are you,
honey?” “I'm in the kitchen, dear. I'm getting a drink of water. And,
Howard, I just found another one of those nasty cockroaches, right here
in our sink.” “Well, kill it then.” “It's already dead. It drowned
when I turned on the faucet. And it's the weirdest thing, Howard, but
I could swear I heard the damn thing screaming when I turned on the
faucet.” -------------- THE END -------------
