I got the idea for this series from real life. Sometimes life doesn't deal us a fair hand. Love decides, for many reasons, it wants you to feel it but it shouldn't be returned. This is MY poem about my heart and the man I love.
 



A Seared Heart In Waiting 

~ 

Standing in the cold, dark night, 

half hidden behind a tree, 

a light brightens the face as I wait. 

Seeing only what is before my face, 

watching from a distance, 

I dream of a different time and place. 

Hoping she doesn't see me, 

I glance at my beloved and wonder 

what she wishes for. 

Praying to see her smile 

though we appear to be so close 

our hearts are apart by miles.

She waits, 

eyes glazed over, 

dead inside, 

for some thing. 

She watches the conflict 

cross his face. 

An inner battle 

between his heart and his soul. 

She doesn't know what she waits for. 

But recognize it's coming. 

With a twist of the hand, 

she flips her hair back to wonder 

if it would be good or bad.

She dreams of the past. 

Happiness and romance 

withered in her soul. 

He had left her 

broken and bruised once before. 

Leaving her blacker than black, 

her soul on fire 

by telling her it couldn't be. 

There's a burn which can't,
