a girl sits waiting for the footsteps to come

The wind swooshed lightly through the curtains into the room, where the
girl stared deadly into the glowing embers.  Her hair rustled a slight 
tad with the breeze, but still she didn't stir.  Her eyes were 
unblinking, wide and empty in the fading light.  Her mouth was slightly 
open, revealing the bottoms of two white teeth, which glistened 
spookily.  Not a sound disturbed the air, which held the full moon 
above the sky, chained back with a see-through net.  Except.... At last 
a lone step sounded, blasting through the air like a cannon shot.  The 
girl's eyes jerked away from the coals and toward the open window, and 
still she sat, as though waiting.  Waiting for another step, perhaps?  
But another step didn't come.  The girl still unblinking, her eyes 
never straying from the curtain, took  a breath.  Slow, and quiet, you 
wouldn't have been able to hear it if right next to her.  Possibly 
wouldn't have been able to feel it if resting upon her.  Such a light 
breath, it was almost unnoticeable.  But then it came again:  a step.  
Just one, shooting through the night, the crackle of dry leaves and the 
crunch of gravel mixed together.  The girl closed her eyes, and her 
mouth closed as well, and curled into a smile.  Not a smile like you'd 
think of a girl to wear, but it seemed almost...evil.  Such a faint 
smile, so full of undefined meaning.  And then her eyes opened, and you 
might've gasped to see the flames in them, reflecting the unseen fire 
in the stove, leaping and dancing, glowing in the night.  She turned 
her burning eyes to the door, just as the handle turned.
