“Uhem.” John Robinson cleared his throat. “Are we interrupting
anything?” Don stood up quickly. Almost too quickly. He deftly caught
Judy before she landed butt first on the hardwood floor. He held her as
she got her footing then turned to his father and mother.

“Hello father. Hello, mother.” John and Maureen walked into the room and
sat across from the two young people. Don and Judy sat down as well.

“So, tell me, what have you two been doing this evening?” Maureen asked.

‘This is it.’ Thought Judy. ‘Finally these snobby, perfect people will
see their flawless son, marred and imperfect.’ She was fairly bursting
in anticipation.

“Actually, Mother and Father, I have something to show you.” Don started
to rise from his seat. “You see, I’ve been thinking about something for
quite sometime now, and I finally decided.”

“What is it, son? You can tell us.” His father had a look of uneasy
concern on his face as Don approached both his parents.

Don pulled up his short sleeve as far as he could and presented the
artwork for his parents to see. “I got this today. I know you will
probably disprove, but I decided it’s my body to do with what I
please.” At the sight of the tattoo, Don’s mother gasped.

Judy was giddy with spiteful feelings. She couldn’t wait for the
fireworks to start. Seconds went by. Then minutes. Nothing happened.
‘What’s the deal?’ she wondered.

Suddenly something did happen. It was quiet at first. A small sound
really. It could have been anything. It was in fact a giggle. The
giggle from Maureen turned into laughter from John. The two adults were
carrying on like school children. Neither were able to breathe deep
enough to speak. Don and Judy were both confused. Judy was not just
confused. She was heartily disappointed. Where was the screaming, the
yelling, the demanding, the cursing. These were the things she lived to
hear – not laughter.

“Mother. Father. What’s happened?” Don asked incredulously.

“Oh, Don.” His father said through laughter. He could not finish.
Instead he nodded to his wife. They both stood up. John pulled up his
sleeve. Maureen unbuttoned the first two buttons on her blouse. Don was
stunned. Suddenly he began to laugh, too.

His parents both had the exact same, newly acquired robot tattoo as Don.
“We call him ‘Robbie’.” Don’s mother proclaimed as the three of them
continued laughing.

Judy’s disappointment at the lack of violence turned to anger as she
departed the mansion, never to be seen or heard from again
