Mark talks with Al and finds out what chased the family away. Then he learns the truth of what happened at that house.

That morning, he was woken up by his mom, she handed him the portable
phone. Tired and not sure of who was calling, he wearily asked,
"Hello?"

"Hey Mark, sweetie, I thought we should talk," Michelle's voice greeted
him and he practically dropped the phone, "I've been thinking, I broke
up with you for unfair reasons. I've been blaming you for Benny's
death, but it wasn't your fault. You don't deserve the blame and I
abandoned you when you needed me most. I'm really sorry. I want to
make it up to you, I was thinking of coming out and spending the
weekend with you."

What was he supposed to say? There was Desiree and he quite honestly
did not want to get back with her. Michelle had abandoned him when he
needed her the most, did she really expect him to just be okay?

"I don't know Michelle, I've been going through a lot," he started but
she interrupted him.

"I know Mark, we've all been going through a lot and we need to be there
for each other. I made a big mistake and I want to make it up for you.
I'll see you this weekend, okay?" he had the feeling that it didn't
matter what he said, she was coming out.

With a heavy sigh, he replied, "If you're coming out because we need to
be there for each other, fine. But if you're coming out here to resume
our relationship, I'm not ready for that. Do you understand?"

"Of course, I do. I understand fully and it's reasonable," with that,
she got directions to his house and he got permission from his parents
to let her stay there. He wondered what he was doing? What would he
tell Desiree? What would he tell Michelle? Life was so complicated
sometimes.

After his trying to figure out how he was going to get town, his mom
gave him the perfect excuse. She wanted to go shopping and thought
he'd enjoy wandering about town. Of course he would but not for the
reasons she thought. He was going to talk to Al.

Once in the car, his mom spoke, "You seem like you're doing better. How
are you holding up, honestly?" The dreams popped into his head and the
experiences at the house made him shudder, though he wasn't about to
tell her. He needed to figure out what was going on before he tried
explaining it to someone.

"Fine, I think taking a break from our home was a good idea. I'm really
liking it here," he explained and he meant it. Desiree made everything
that was happening worth suffering through.

"Excellent," she grinned, "That's what I wanted to hear. It does seem
better for us, doesn't it? Though, tell me, have you noticed anything
strange about the house? Maybe seen things or heard things?" Mark
looked at her and noticed the way she was looking at the road. He
wasn't going crazy, or maybe it was mass hysteria.

"I may have, what are you talking about?" before he bared his soul, he
wanted to make sure they were on the same thoughtline. He wasn't about
to reveal he thought the house was haunted until he knew he wasn't
alone about thinking it.

"Maybe things like a girl crying or movement when nothing's there?" she
was obviously ashamed of asking and he knew how she felt, but he was
beyond excited. It was strange being estatic that someone else was
sharing in the haunting, but it meant that he wasn't alone.

"Yeah I have. I thought I was the only one," he couldn't help but
smile.

There was a heavy sigh of relief from her, "Thank god, I was afraid I
was going nutts. Don't tell your father, he's not hearing or seeing
it. I heard a girl's voice when you were in the basement. Yet when I
opened the door, you were alone."

"I heard a voice too, she cried out to someone asking them not to do it
then pleading that she wouldn't tell. I thought I was going crazy too.
