My biological father was killed by a drunk driver 28 years ago on the 20th. This is a one of two poems I wrote for him. NO pity requested!!!!

The Baby Girl Lives

I was a little girl

the last time you saw me.

Forever in my memory

is the way you looked.

You are never far from my thoughts

and always in my heart.

~

Sometimes we can't know

the people who affect our life the most.

We have to take what we do

and make the best of it.

All the while knowing it doesn't

touch the surface of what was real.

~

The fantasies I've had

where you are concerned

can't take the place of not knowing

the person you were.

But they've made life livable imaging

the love you had for me.

~

Daddies are supposed to die.

Daughters are left to mourn.

Instead I want to celebrate

the life I've made

with you in my thoughts.
