The tenative beginning.

The Look

.

Something fast, quick

So fast I can barely see it.

.

There.

.

There it is.

Its there in that stolen glance you don't want me to see

Something reaches through the facades we use to protect ourselves

Streches through our barriers

Our eyes meet, and, just for a moment-

We see each other.

.

We both look away, embarrassed.

Are you as scared as I am?

But in that glance, we see something.

.

Our real selves, the parts we hide from others

I see the young girl, longing for something more

You see the young man, seeming to be so in control.

But whose so often so afraid.

.

If only you knew how important you were to me.

How much of that confidence and control is really a lie.

Can you tell when you're looking at me, do you see it?

.

Usually I see the beautiful, confidant young woman.

But in those moments,

I see the girl whose afraid of never finding the true one.

I see the tears you've cried into your pillow-

late at night, lonely and afraid.

.

When we normally look at one another

Neither of us see the fear, or the confusion.

But for those quiet, rare moments,

We get when we accidentally catch one another

When we pray that the other isn't looking

.

In those moments, we both see the truth.

And both see each other's fear.

But do we have the courage to keep trying.

.

.

.

Time to find out.
