All Roads Lead to the Mighty Mo

There is a saying that goes like you don't get a second chance

to make a first impression. This was very true when it comes to either

pronouncing or spelling out the city name Sioux City in Iowa. Not many

people even in the United States can spell Sioux City correctly from

its pronunciation Sue City. Many others mispronounce as Sehox City from

its correct spelling Sioux City. Starting from its inception Sioux

City had rough beginnings because of its location and from its name.

The whole town was once submerged from river floods and then a huge

fire burnt the down town. When it comes to its name, the airline city

code for Sioux City is SUX pronounced as sucks. The federal aviation

authority refuses to change the code SUX for Sioux City despite the

repeated requests from the City Council.

When President Jefferson sent an expedition under the

leadership of Lewis and Clark to explore the Pacific West, the only

member of the expedition sergeant Charles Floyd died on the banks of

the Missouri River near what is today the Sioux City. Thus the name

Floyd became a legend in the area for no reason at all except for his

death not from fighting the Native Americans but from a stomach

infection. A monument resembling Washington monument but on a smaller

scale was built in honor of Sergeant Floyd is now a popular tourist

attraction in Sioux City.

There is nothing significance about Sioux City except for its

name that is often misspelled and mispronounced until 1989 when an

airliner was crash landed killing 111 people but because of the heroic

help from the local volunteers 185 passengers were survived. Since then

Sioux City is remembered at national level for the heroes that rescued

185 passengers from a burning plane. The people of Iowa are known

to be level headed and fair thus represent the psyche of the core

values of all Americans; no wonder why in electing the president of

the country, the first primary elections always takes place in Iowa

giving Iowans the chance to give their first impression of the

presidential candidates. Every presidential candidate in Iowa primary

elections knows that if they fail in Iowa, they won't get a second

chance to make a first impression on the voters around the country.

War Eagle, a member of Native American Sioux tribe apparently

helped a French-Canadian businessman to build the first settlement in
