like, to be in a star's position, to stare down at the earth? She
felt, that it was like staring at something so timeless, when you only
have one life to live, that was the way she would want to spend it,
studying natural beauty, stars.

Walking back to her bed, she laid down, staring up out her ceiling
glowed with stars. Moments later, she fell into a deep slumber, finally
going to bed without tears.

Well, when she woke up, she was very hungry, so she decided to go to the
local pizza shop called Benny's, if she satisfied her hunger, then all
she had to do was puke to keep from gaining weight.

As she walked through the door, her heart stopped at the sight of him.
There he was standing behind the cash register, the cutest guy she had
ever seen. He had curly blonde hair, the curls were short, the best
feature about him however, were his bright blue eyes. God how she loved
his eyes! She loved blue eyes, but his weren't just blue they were so
bold and intriguing! She didn't realize it, but she had been standing
there, just staring at him for a few minutes now, she watched as he
smiled at the costumer and said have a good day. That smile made her
want to melt, then their eyes met. She looked down, reading his name
tag, “ Hello My Name is Chris!”They were both staring at each other, he
gave a smirk and she shook her head, so embarrassed at herself, she
turned to open the door, trying to pull it open when it said push. Once
she finally got outside, she walked over to the car, checked her hair
and smoothed some gloss over her lips, then grabbed her phone,
something that she could pretend she forgot . . . a reason for her
leaving so suddenly. She locked her car, took a deep breath, and opened
the door.

He saw her walking over to one of the empty tables, with two chairs, he
watched her every movement, as she pulled out a book and started
reading. Then all of the sudden, an elderly woman walked up to him, to
place her order. He was so irritated, he had to take his eyes off of
the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.

Perfect, Cadhla thought. She got up out of her chair, and walked over to
the other cash register, this cashier was also cute . . . not like
Chris though. His name was Steve, he had brown hair, and hazel eyes, he
just said may I take your order?

“ Ummm . . . yes I would like a hot pepperoni roll and a small Coke.”

“ Okay, when it's done, we'll bring it to your table.”

“ Thank you.”

Chris had been watching from a distance, dang he thought, she likes
Steve. Disappointed, he pretended to clean off the counter, as he
watched Cadhla returned to her seat, and continued with her book. Then,
Steve stood next to him, and watched Cadhla with him, then looked back
at Chris.

“ Man, you have the hots for her! Don't worry, she's all your's . . .
you can deliver her food when it's done.”

Not saying a word, Steve patted Chris on the back and started laughing.
They are best friends, and have always made bids on who gets what girl.
However, this one was different, not only was she gorgeous, she looked
smart, and didn't seem like the type to go up and just ask for their
number. He didn't know exactly what it was about her, but he wanted to
know everything about her, to just sit there and talk with her for
hours. Then the oven beeped, he pulled out the pepperoni roll, grabbed
the coke from Steve, and walked over to her table.

Cadhla sat there, her booked open resting her chin in her hand, staring
in the book. She didn't read a word of it, this time it wasn't used for
a shield. This time she was day dreaming of those eyes looking her way,
and that smirk made her weak.

“ Here's your food.”

Cadhla looked up and there he was, standing right next to her, with that
same smirk. His bright blue eyes glaring down at her, as if they could
see her very soul. She was in her own little world, she had never acted
like this with any other guy, and wasn't sure why this one made her
weak in the knees. Her green eyes, stared right back up at him . . . ,
he had never seen eyes as striking has her's, that stare, he knew
would stick with him for the rest of the day, maybe even the week.

“ Thank you.” She replied.

Chris wasn't quite sure what to say, or do next, one false movement or
word could ruin any chances with her.

“ May I sit here for a minute or two?” he asked sheepishly. She gave him
a cute little smile, and nodded slightly. “ Hi, my name's Chris, and
that's my buddy Steve.” Steve gave a slight bob of the head, and asked
a lady for her order.

“ Hi, I'm Cadhla, but you can just call me Cad.”

“Cadhla, wow that's a pretty name... and I'm assuming you are a senior?”

“ Thank you.” Blushing she continued, “Yup . . . Williamsburg High,
what about you?”

“ I'm a senior too, I go to Edison High.”

After, the small talk and laughter that came from the table, Steve saw
something different. Chris was laughing, and somehow, he showed the fun
side to him. That was one side, that the girls he dated before never
seen, they had seen the side that only wanted sex and that's it. He was
the usual macho man . . . that didn't like small talk and
conversation, and at that moment Steve knew that this girl was going to
change him, the thought made him sick! He liked the macho man side that
was one thing that Chris and him had in common, and that was to date
the sexiest girls that they could, and he wasn't gonna lose that with
some bright eyed, bookworm.

“Chris, I need some help over here!” Steve shouted.

Rolling his eyes, he climbed up out of his seat, and looking down at
Cadhla. He just stood there, not quite sure what to say, he had so much
fun with this girl, she was so different then anyone he had ever met.

“ Cad, I hate to sound forward, but would you go on a date with me
Friday?”

She wasn't sure, men only wanted her for her status and nothing more,
she didn't know if she could trust him. Something told her, to accept,
maybe it was those beautiful eyes, or his warm smile. Maybe, it was his
humor, or maybe her mind was playing tricks on her . . . she couldn't
possibly have developed feelings for some strange guy, that she just
met so quickly. No, it's impossible, she told herself that she didn't
believe in love at first sight and no matter how cute this guy was, no
matter if it was Brad Pitt, nothing could change her thoughts.

“ Yes, that would be great, what do you want to do?”

“ It's a surprise, I guess you'll just have to trust me.” He gave her a
smile, wrote something on a napkin, and kissed her softly on the cheek.

She watched as Steve pulled Chris back behind his register, and said
okay Romeo get back to work. Cadhla put the napkin in her bag, grabbed
her book, waved and was headed home.

The next thing she knew, she was in her room lying on her bed staring
out the window as the sun was setting. God today was absolutely perfect
she said to herself . . . she almost forgot her weight control method
and climbed out of her bed and went to the bathroom. This time, she
wasn't crying, she was for the first time in her life, really happy. In
her mind that moment, she just kept thinking of those eyes as they
searched deep into her's, and how if she didn't lose weight, she would
lose him. That she couldn't bare to think of, she felt special when she
talked to him, like he was interested in every word that came out of
her mouth, he was so different. She was having pains in her stomach,
but ignored them, and went over to her purse, looking for that napkin.
She unfolded it, and below his name Chris McBeck and number was a
message that said:

Cad a.k.a. Beautiful, Hope to see ya Friday meet me here: 1706
Cherry-wood Lane 6pm

The word beautiful rang through her mind, what was it that men found so
great? She didn't think she was beautiful at all, so it had to be the
fact that she has had sex more then once. However, he seemed way too
sweet, that he couldn't possibly have just been trying to get her to
sleep with him. So have all the others! She was so confused, she didn't
want to jump into a relationship with anyone just yet. She decided to
get in the car, and drive to Katie's house, she needed advice.

“ Katie, what do I do? Should I give this guy a chance, I don't want to
get hurt, or the other way round!”

“ Cad, you can't be afraid to get to know a guy, who knows, he could end
up being just your best friend . . . either way, boyfriend or not,
you can't be afraid to meet new people.”

“ Your right, I can do this. Oh my God! He was just so cute . . . I
couldn't tell him what I was feeling, those eyes just looked at me in a
way no other guy has, he makes me calm and comfortable.”

“ Wow . . . okay I think you definitely have a crush on this guy . . .
and just think you didn't believe in love at first sight.”

“ I don't . . . he was just a nice guy that's all, you can't feel love
just by looking at someone, that's impossible!”

“ Okay Miss Positive, but at least go on a date with him, it'll be fun.”

“ Yup that I will do . . . but don't get your hopes up about this one.”

“ Okay . . . it's a deal.” They talked, for a few more hours, and then
Cadhla headed home, when she got to her door step, there sitting very
beautifully were five red roses, tied with a silk white bow. She
smiled, wondering how on earth, he knew where she lived. Not thinking
anything of it, she picked them up and placed them gently in her arms,
realizing that there was a note attached.

Cadhla, You asked me, what I had planned for our date Friday, and I am
not telling you. This is just a little something I picked up for you,
to keep you curious. I have decided, to give you five roses, not only
because they are beautiful just like you, but because it's five days
until our big date. I also wanted to tell you that I haven't stopped
thinking about you since we met . . . just between me and you, I'm
driving Steve insane haha haha! Well I can't wait to see you. Bye
Gorgeous! ~ Chris

As Cadhla read that note, she sighed, that was so sweet! No guy, had
ever just given her roses just because they felt like it. She then went
in the house, there on the couch were her mom and little sister,
smiling with curiosity. They just sat there, staring at her, waiting
for her to explain.

“ They are just from some guy, who I met at Benny's.” She said calmly.

“ Those are amazing to be just from some guy.” Her mom replied.

“ Cadhla has a sweet boyfriend . . . so when's your date?” asked Sara.
Not wanting to answer she turned her back to go upstairs, until her mom
pushed the issue further, as if she were being tried for murder or
something.

“ It's Friday, 6pm . . . he gave me an address to go to, probably his
house . . . can I go now?”

Her mother, gave her a smile, she knew this guy was different for Cadhla
and she welcomed that word different with open arms. Cadhla ran up the
stairs, closed her room door and took out the secret box. Then she
stopped, the other things men gave her, that were in that box were
simple basic things . . . like a flower, a card . . . this was
something more special to her. Something, she didn't know what told
her, that this note was so much more then a flower on Valentine's Day
or a Birthday card. This was something that didn't have a reason of why
she got it, Chris was just a sweet guy. She set the roses on her
vanity, in a vase. Then she took the note, it didn't belong in that
box, it was so much more then that. So, she went over to her closet
door, also a mirror, took some tape and taped it up. There she thought,
that's better. Then she sat down on her bed, she hadn't eaten anything
else, god she was hungry! She took a Hershey bar out of her box, and
started eating it, she stopped and just stared down at the chocolate.
Then, she thought of an idea . . . every time she ate something
fattening, without puking, she would put a dollar in the box. Sort of
as a punishment to herself that if she ate she would lose a dollar. She
then threw a dollar in the box, and threw the Hershey bars in the
kitchen cupboard, thinking that it would stop the craving.

Her days at school, flew like the wind. She had five different guys ask
her to homecoming, and she denied all five invites. No longer was she
annoyed by the invitations, now she was flattered and payed little
attention to the ones that harassed her. This year, she would do the
inviting, this year she would invite Chris. All day while roaming the
halls, she thought about their date. His eyes poisoned her every
thought, in class she would sit there and day dream of those eyes
peering down at her. So far she had received three lectures about not
paying attention, normally, class humiliation would have upset her,
however for some reason she didn't care.

When she got home, she ran up into her room, the clock read 4:00pm she
had two hours until her big date, she was so disappointed what would
she do for two hours? She decided to take a bath, just let her mind
drain. That was impossible, for as she closed her beautiful eyes, they
opened as quickly as they closed. She was having very sharp pains in
her stomach, it felt like knives were piercing her. She didn't know
what to do. She climbed out of the tub dripping of water and bubbles
of soap. Tears were swelling in her eyes, from the pain, she knew what
it was from, she grabbed a banana that was sitting on the counter in
the kitchen. Holding only a towel around her, she didn't care she stood
there and swallowed every bit of it, as fast as she could. She then
grabbed a second banana and shoved it in her mouth, she was starting to
gag, something wanted her to throw it back up. Fighting the gags, she
swallowed all of it, the pain had ceased, but now, she felt like her
stomach was turning. She quickly ran to the bathroom, this time she
didn't have to make herself puke, it came up either way. She wasn't
sure what to do, her stomach felt so empty and when she ate, she just
puked anyway. She climbed back in the tub, and just laid in the water,
letting the warmth of the water relax her nerves. What if Chris made
food for them to eat? If she ate, she would have to puke and if she
didn't eat, that would be like a slap in the face. She decided not to
think bad thoughts, she had to make this date special.

It was about time for the date to start, and she took an hour just to
pick out her outfit and how to wear her hair and makeup. She choose a
short jean skirt, and a tight pink shirt, that showed off her perfect
curves, and showed her shoulders. If anyone else saw her, they would be
worried sick. She had lost a tremendous amount of weight, and her
shoulders were all bone. She was blinded, by the truth and didn't see,
she barely had anything on her legs, they were getting thinner and
thinner every day. Either way, the outfit looked great, she decided to
wear her white flip flops, to show off her matching toe nails, with a
cute silver toe ring. Her hair, well that took 45 minutes to get
perfect. She decided to add some curve and volume to her long dark
brown hair, she took some mousse in her hands and schruched her hair,
to give it a soft wavy appearance. She glided some white creamy
eyeshadow across her eye lids, and brushed on some pink blush. As she
looked in the mirror, she didn't want to go over board with the make
up, but she added some pink lip gloss, sprayed some vanilla body spray,
fluffed her hair and went out the door.

She didn't realize it, but the address he had given her was only ten
minutes from where she lived. She pulled her red car, into the paved
driveway of a big white house, it had a wrap around porch and their
were no neighbors in sight. It was absolutely beautiful, she stepped
out, and walked up the brick path, up the porch steps and rang the
doorbell. Then suddenly, the door opened and there behind it stood
Chris. Little would Cadhla know, that he had also taken a long time to
get ready, he tried on ten different shirts, not quite sure what to
wear. He finally choose a white tank top, and a long sleeve blue
flannel shirt, that he rolled up to his elbows, a pair of loose tan
jeans and brown shoes. He put some gel in his curls, and he put on some
cologne. When he opened the door, he was breathless at the sight of
Cadhla. The sun was just being to set behind her, making her hair
shimmer in it's light. She smiled sweetly, and he just stood there
for a few minutes, her green eyes just stared back at him. “ Wow, you
look amazing!” he managed to say. She blushed at his remark, fluffed
her hair, and pulled at her skirt.

“ Thank you, I must say, you don't look bad yourself.”

He took her hand, and invited her in. He then lead her to the living
room, where a lady, she was assuming to be his mother was sitting on
the couch. She looked up, from reading her book and stood up, extending
her hand. She then realized where Chris got the good looks, his mother
had those same blue eyes, and curly blonde hair that went down to her
shoulders. She looked to be in her late thirties. She was as skinny as
a rail, and she was short and petite and just looked so down to earth.

“ Mom, this is Cadhla. Cadhla this is my mom.”

“ Why yes, Chris hasn't been able to stop talking about you, and now I
know why. You are quite beautiful.” She said shaking her hand.

“ It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. McBeck.”

“ Just call me Kathy . . . Mr. McBeck died when Chris was just a baby,
so it's just the two of us.”

“ Oh I'm so sorry.”

“ It's not your fault dear, it was so nice to meet you and I hope to see
you around here more often. Chris take care of her.”

“ Don't worry mom, C'mon Cadhla let's go.”

Giving Kathy a hug, Chris took her hand and lead her to his yellow
Sunfire, parked in the garage. Then, they both were in the car, and as
they drove off, he stopped at some drive-in theater. Cadhla loved it .
. . she felt like she was in the fifties. Then Chris climbed out of
the car.

“ I thought you're supposed to stay inside the car and watch the movie.”
Cadhla giggled in curiosity. Then Chris got a bunch of things out of
the trunk and set it down in the grass, under a huge palm tree. As she
was watching, she smiled at how cute it was, not just him, but how hard
he was working to make the date perfect.

“ Hey cheater! No peeking!” She heard him yell. Laughing, she turned her
back against the window, so she wouldn't ruin the surprise. Then after
a few minutes, he tapped at the window, turning around to see him
smiling at her through the window. She opened the door, and he took her
hand and helped her out of the car. As they were walking, he put his
arm around her shoulder, feeling her soft skin . . . it was cold as
ice and he could feel the bones under his fingers. He didn't say a
word, just wondering what this beautiful girl could be putting herself
through.

“ Hun, are you cold?”

“ A little, but I'll be fine.” Not listening to the last few words, he
grasped her hand, to stop her from walking and he took off his flannel
shirt, and wrapped it around her shoulders.

“ Chris, you didn't have to do that, for me.” She smiled and wrapped it
round herself and took in the warmth that it held from his body, and it
smelled so good, the smell of his sweet cologne. She wrapped her arm
around his back, and rested her head on his shoulder.

“ I hate to see, my baby miserable. I'll freeze to death before I see
you cold.”

“ Awwww . . . that was soooo sweet. Thanks.” She replied as she rested
her head on him.

When they finally reached their special place, Cadhla lifted her head up
in surprise. There was a huge white blanket set under the palm tree.
Then, in a bowl were some strawberries topped with whipped cream, and
popcorn in another bowl.

“ Okay . . . this isn't it, so sit yourself under the tree and close
your eyes.” He said before she could say a word. She felt him, set
something in her lap, and then he sat down behind her cradling her in
his arms. “ Okay open.” He whispered in her ear. There sitting on her
lap was a big white teddy bear with a red bow tied round it's neck.

“ Oh my God Chris he's so cute thank you!”

“ You like it? I hoped you would.”

“ I love him. Thank you!”

Then the movie started, a classic movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Cadhla
loved that movie, and as the movie played Cadhla sat on the blanket,
leaning against Chris. They both ate popcorn and watched the movie
together. Cadhla couldn't remember ever being this happy with a guy,
she loved having his arms around her, his voice whispering in her ear
softly. Then all of the sudden, she realized that he was staring down
at her. She gazed up, staring into his bright blue eyes. He lifted her
chin with his hand softly, pushing back her soft brown hair. She
watched as he slowly lowered his lips to her's.

In Chris's mind she was more then perfect for him. Her lips caressed
his, so soft like clouds, he pulled back to look at the expression on
her face. Her eyes sparkling even more, under the moonlight. She had a
blank expression on her face, he had no idea what she was thinking, but
he just stared into those eyes that have captured his mind since they
met.

Cadhla stared into his eyes, not sure if what she was doing was the
right thing. She had kissed many men before, but none of them could
compare to the feeling he gave her. In a way, she didn't want to kiss
him, because she had done the same thing with other men that meant very
little to her. However, the other part of her wanted to kiss him so
much, to just be held in his arms forever. It was only their first
date, and she had very strong feelings for him. She fought with the
things that were running through her mind, and gently kissed him again,
this time wrapping her arms around his neck, as he ran his fingers
through her beautiful hair. It was so perfect.

After the movie, they grabbed their belongings and headed to the car.
She held her bear tightly, unsure how to ask Chris what she had
planned. Unable to take the silence, she let the words slip from her
mouth. “ Chris, I was wondering . . . there is this homecoming next
Friday and I was thinking that maybe you could come with me?” As he
turned his car in the driveway, she climbed out of the car, and he got
in the driver's seat of her car, he was gonna take her home. She
thought the offer was so cute, she didn't say a word and just climbed
in the passengers seat.

“ Cadhla, I am not the dancing type.” He said, noticing, the
disappointment in her eyes, then continued. “ I can't imagine, you
going with another guy, or alone for that matter, I'll do anything for
you. I'd love to.”

Cadhla smiled sweetly and kissed him, he was so perfect. So different
then all the other men she dated. The other men, she slept with, on the
first date, but she never had another date with any of them a second
time. Maybe, it was revenge, for what Matt put her through, at the age
of 15. She didn't want to ruin what she had with this guy, she felt
special when she was with him. Then as he walked her to her door, and
kissed her good night, he asked to see her again.

“ That would be great, how about Monday night?”

“ Monday, it is . . . I'll pick you up at 6pm. Good night Beautiful.”
He kissed her one last time and watched as she walked in her house.

She ran into her bedroom, and sat on the window seat with her teddy bear
next to her. She then went over and pulled out her secret box, took out
the note book and a pen. The poem that she wrote was so different from
all of the other ones she had written before. This poem was happy,
something that Cadhla never thought she could feel, especially with a
man. However she was very happy, her heart that she felt was locked up
in a jar, to keep from falling in love, had just been shattered, and
her poem reflected that.

It Can't Be

I felt that I was better off without a man. How quickly at night my
tears ran. Right now, I have never felt so strong, What I thought
before was very wrong. No longer are dark eyes, haunting my dreams, Now
all I see are blue eyes, watching over me it seems. I wanna tell the
world, what I feel. I would say, that love at first sight, can be real.
Wait, it can't be? My heart is screaming at me. I didn't want to be,
not yet. Yes I think I'm in love I bet.

Closing her notebook, she held her bear tightly as she gazed up at her
ceiling. Was it true? Had she developed that strong of feelings for
him? She hadn't had sex with him, like all the others, and there she
was holding the bear he gave her. She looked over at her closet, and
there was the note she taped to her mirror. These things ran through
her mind, then she stopped and looked at the bear and whispered. “ I
didn't think it was possible, yes I am . . . I am in love!” She had a
tear running down her cheek, so happy that she finally had her life
back, and so scared that she could lose it in the blink of an eye. She
then remembered the food that she ate, and she felt that if she didn't
keep her figure, that would be the key to losing what she discovered.
What did she discover? One word, which changes everyone, and that word
is love.
